Remember going to a pull in Punkin Center years ago and watching a pretty good sized Deere, straight out of the field, pull against one of the hot rod tractors. The hot rod went maybe 200 feet before digging in. The 'ole Deere hooked to the same sled and walked it a full 300 feet and then some. Backed it up and pulled again with more weight and did the same thing. The third time I think he finally choked her down around 250 or so. Watching that, to me, was more fun, intresting, and satisfying than watching a dozen hot rods trying to do the same thing.

Those type of pulls are hard to find. I always get a kick out of the old stockers outdoing the hot ones. Slow and steady gets it done.

Yeah, the hot rods put on a show, but you don't pull three bottoms through the south forty with one of those things. I'm with everyone else, I like to watch the stockers do their thing.

At the big farm tractor pulls I have been to, they generally reqire a stock tractor that has been modified to wrap the clutch area with a metal netting, but I have never seen a stock tractor with one. Unfortunately it"s for what happened at your pull that most insurance companies won"t write policies to cover "antique" pulling tractors.

First tractor pull I went to was stock tractors and guys standing on both sides of the sled about 4 ft apart with concrete blocks in hand to lay on sled. Not much dust and not much noise. Enjoyed. Everything looked like it come straight of the farm.
