To peel or not to peel(Tamarack Post0

What is everybodys opinion on having to peel fence post before use? I have seen them used both ways. The soil would be clay with fair moisture most of the time> Any Ideas??

mnoliverguy, Here in Central Texas the Norm for Cedar Posts to put them in unpeeled. But my Dad believed, and Maintained that a Peeled Post would last longer ans stay tighter in the ground. For there was no bark to rot off and deteriorate and cause the post get get loose. But that may have more to do with how much heartwood to softer wood a particular post has. So IMO "Peel" I think That is the way to go. OBTW A pressure washer will peel Cedar bark in nothing flat. Hope this helps.

I have done both with locust and peeled about 50 two months ago, so I made the effort. The best I have seen is 50 or so years on sawn locust, which means they were heartwood.
