laser pointers???

Anyone ever fooled with them??? I always used them to fool with the cats and dogs and they had a ball... Buch of rabbits in the front yard awhile ago and I was pointing the dot all over them and on the ground in front of them and never even phased them... Went in front where some big wood pidgeons roost in a tree and the laser scared hell outta them....

I's curious now.....

We had two dogs at one time. One was so excited about the laser that you could NOT pick up a pencil but what she wouldn't go to stare at a certain spot on the wall waiting for the dot to appear.

Our English setter was clueless.

That can be a fun game to play with your pet.

Not good for your pets, it gets them psychotic, like a horse cribbing. But, they don't live that long anyhow.

Hey!! You guys get back to work!! no wonder we can't get anything done. I may try that pointer on some lazy kids, just tie a whip on it ...

I use one at work everyday. I am a Safety Supervisor and I use it to get the attention of employees. I DO NOT point it at the employee, just in their general area so they will see it to get their attention. They all know I use it and when they see it they know to stop and look for me. It is a Safe way to communicate when used properly. It prevents yelling on the job site and cuts down on confusion. DO NOT ever point into someone or an animals eyes, it can cause serious damage.

Funny you should mention those things. About a month ago my oldest (18) grandson got one in the mail. I laid into him then that he does not point it near or at anyone- just like a rifle. He graduated from HS two weeks ago, and just came home from his senior trip to Ocean City yesterday. I was down in the barn on a tractor cleaning it out. Very suddenly, I was blind. In the barn, cloudy day, no one near. In a few seconds, as my sight started to clear up, I was able to see a green spot on the wall of the barn in front of me. I went up to the daughter's, and threatened to shove that thing right up his wazhoo so far that he was going to resemble a lighted skull at Halloween. I still have a yellow spot in my right eye from it. He wanted to let me know he was home, but didn't think the thing would reflect in the mirrors on the tractor. Guess what? They do, and are just as dangerous. They are not a play toy. And idiots should not be allowed to have them without someone supervising them.

There have been studies that have proven that the green lasers are more dangerous than red.

It's simply because the eye is more sensitive to light frequencies in the green/yellow range.

(that could/ probably DOES differ greatly in animals - I don't know)

So green is definitely more dangerous to humans. But add on top of that there are a lot of illegally imported green laser pointers with power levels way over what is considered safe.

Any laser can be harmful depending on the length of the exposure - stare directly into a red pen laser for an hour and it'll probably do permenant damage too.

Any time you see an after image from a light, you have at least caused some very minor "damage" -but it generally goes away in about 10 minutes.

If it lasts into days and weeks, you've definitely caused some more severe damage - but that hopefully will go away as it heels.

But if you got a good blast of green light from one of those illegal lasers (depends on how powerful) it can cause permanent damage.

very probable.

I used to have some industrial lasers (well before 9/11 days).

They were amazing - at night you could point them at planes miles away and light them up in the sky.

I was of course much younger and more foolish then.

But it WAS neat.

donJr:.. I think you really should have taken that laser away from him.. even if you had to physically take it.. He "took away" your eye sight.. When you get your eyes back to normal you could give him the laser back after talking safety issues over with him.. not too late even now to take it away. ag
