IH 544 hydro fuel system

I posted a while back about my 544 not running well. I have changed the filters and bled the air from the filters. It ran for a while and now will start but will not keep running. I suspect air in the system. My manual shows a bleed screw on top of the pump but my tractor does not have it. It is a Bosch pumpthat looks similar to the manual but does not have the bleed screw. How can i get air out of the system? or do I have another problem?

I had a similar problem with my 544 and another tractor several years back. Both turned out to be an object (piece of rust, leaf, etc.) in the fuel tank that would float over the outlet and starve the engine.

I had a problem with ladybugas in the fuel tank in my 885. Had to drain the tank twice to clean it up. The 544 filters were really full of sludge so i thought I'd found the problem now. hope it is just air in the system.

Later Bosch VA pumps had no bleed screw like early pumps did and were more or less self bleeding. What brand fuel filters did you use, have made service calls of NAPA filters that owners make mistake and place extra O ring in outer top of filter inlet groove shutting off flow to filter. Not common but does happen with NAPA 3166 and WIX filters.

CaseIH filterss. these were not the spin on type but the canister in the middle of a two part housing. Only 1 oring on the bottom. Should I just keep starting it and it will eventually run ok? I changed the filters this morning bled them ann it started and ran at fast idle while I cleaned up tools. When i moved it a little it began to run rough and then died on a small hill. Now it will start and run about 2-3 seconds and dies. Will start back up almost immediately. I may have to drain the tank and see if I can get a good look inside. Luckly only 2-3 inches of fuel in it.

Try cleaning around fuel inlet line at front of pump, remove fitting to check flow and all air is clear at this connection. If air is still present or flow is really slow you have more work to do to correct your trouble.
