State of Jefferson

The wife and I, took a road trip, to Martinez Ca., to attend a reunion of her family saturday. I had never met them, and went along, to see what kind of people she sprang from. Nice folks, but not a redneck amongst them. 14 hr's one way, in a little 93 ply sundance,( because I am cheep, and didn't want to spring for gas in the 06 windstar van.) The Air cond. quit in Oregon on the way down, and they had 105 deg's in Martinez Sat. ANYWAY to get to the point! On the way down, after crossing into Ca. from Ore, around Grenada, I saw a building-barn-shed, with The State Of Jefferson, written on the roof, in big white letters. I wondered if there was a connection, with one of our YT posters, who uses the same handle? On the way home Sunday, I checked again, and the building was in a field next to the I-5 freeway, on the northbound side. Would the state of jefferson care to comment on this, and relive my courosity?

Similar with the state of Superior or Ontonagon. Gee-if the Upper peninsula of Michigan splits away does Michigan get Toledo back?

You were about 15 minutes from my house. I live 15 miles south west of I-5 @ Yreka, in a little place called Ft Jones.
There was a great article on Yahoo news a few years about it, but my search just showed nothing.
It is more than a bit frustrating living in a VERY rural part of a state, and having urban people 800 miles away creating laws that have NO effect on them, but quite a bit on you. I still think we'd be better off if we seceded from the rest of the two states. I think most people in LA don't realize anyone lives north of San Fransisco...

There's a good description of the State of Jefferson movement at the first rest area you come to when you enter California from Oregon on I-5. The rest area is quite nice, too, overlooking the river. Real nice place to get out and stretch your legs.

We do have a capitol in Albany, but our governors all seem to prefer NY,NY.

It seems to me that there was a movement to
break away Michigan"s "Upper pininsula", which is actually part of Wisconsin,about 20 years ago,
and call it the state of Superior!
