All:
We held our 3rd Annual Father's Day Amish Country Tractor cruise Saturday, June 16 in Arthur, IL. We had 90 tractors travel a 40 mile cruise. One family had four generations! A great day and looking forward to next year.

The first picture is my 1949 Oliver 88 and the second is lining up prior to the last leg of the trip...a parade down Vine Street in Arthur, IL.

Being as road gear varries widely, in those old tractors, I would imagine that it was a little hard to keep the herd togeather? What was the slower tractors? and probably the H internationals were the fastest? My Allis B certainly would come in with the slowest.

"Amish Country Tractor Cruise" isn"t that an OXYMORON?

Somehow when I read that title, I expected to se a picture of horses and buggies!

Nice pix, thanks for sharing...

We average 10 MPH and we have a lead pickup and rear truck to keep everyone together. We tell the drivers to keep two tractor lengths distance. In reality, the drivers of the B John Deere and the B Farmall had to keep their tractors at a full throttle to keep up.

Counting the first tire, the third tractor has the wheels on backwards...does that help save the tread on blacktop? just wondering...must have been a pretty ride.

40 miles? 40 MILES? FORTY MILES? Holy cow, that's a ride. Well, congratulations, seems like you all had fun.

Years ago I drove up to the track in Joliet to do some work for them, and there were tractors for as far as one could see. They rode around the track on the track, and as I recall took part in I think a 3 day travel and campout, cookout, and all that finally ended at the Grundy County Fairgrounds not so far away, driving along the I&M Canal. Back when I use to watch RFD TV, which may or may not even be on anymore, they did a half hour segment on that one on their tractor show that may or may not still be on.

Sounds like all had fun, and that's what really matters. So, keep it up.

I have heard that tires running backwards wear better on a paved road. Maybe because they are on this 40 mile drive they reversed them.

Mark,

Forty miles is a good forenoon ride in Iowa. I just got back from the "Great Eastern Iowa Tractorcade". Monday we drove 75 miles, Tues drove 55, then Wed it was only 30. There was only 530 tractors taking part. Organized in "speed groups"; slowest (10mph or less) was 1st group and working higher to 7th group of 15+.
I always wanted to try that and it was really nice. WMT radio has it super organized, with lots of stops for snacks and meals. We never stopped for a stop sign for 3 days; police stopped all traffic as we came thru. Lots of farm families in large groups sitting in lawn chairs waving as we went by. Tractors had to have smv, mirror, tow strap and fire extinguisher. I have a "bimini style" umbrella on my H Farmall and sitting in shade made it real comfy. I entered the 3rd group and I enjoyed cruising at about 1/2 throttle most of the time. At age 75 that first day was a bit too long, but I enjoyed the whole ride so much I think I"ll apply to ride again next year. With all the food stops I have it figured out we averaged 200 calories per mile!
