got this guy at work everything he touches or is around breaks or stops working for some reason, reminds me of the Flintstones character bad luck schlep rock, anyone else have a co-worker like this?

Nope, don't have a co-worker like that, but I'm reminded of what Amarillo Slim, the famous poker player said: "Its important to identify the sucker at the table as soon as you can. If you can't identify the sucker within 10 minutes, its you!"

I think its me. . .

Sounds like the guy in "Lil Abner" the old comic strip that used to go around with a black raining cloud over him where ever he went. It’s been so long ago that I can't remember the character's name. There are probably a lot of folks that don't even remember the comic strip or who never even saw it, I think it disappeared from the paper 5 or 6 decades ago. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Don't think it has been that long ago. I remember it and am 68 and sure I was more than 8 years old when I was reading it.

We've got a neighbor like that. One of his tractors is down, and his other had the power harrow on it so he wanted to borrow our tractor to pull his disk so he could get some barley in. We told him we'd run it for him, but we'd rather not have him use it.

My dad ran the disk for a couple hours, and a bearing went out. Dad went to a few places, and TSC had the right bearing. He took it apart, I put it back together, and I retorqued ALL of the gangs, as they were all VERY loose. (one gang I got another 3/4" out of the threads). I ran it a couple rounds to make sure it worked alright and pulled the pin and went home.

Dad got too busy with our own stuff to help so our neighbor reluctantly pulled the power harrow off his tractor (he's slow to do anything, so when we were ready to help the week before, he turned us down) and worked his field some more. Now the disk has a busted axle on one of the gangs and another bad bearing.

He's got a 200-250 gallon water tank on it for weight, FULL, and he just got done fixing the hitch on it because he tore that off last year. About 8-9 years ago we borrowed it to work down some spring plowed sod, and one of the square tubes (2 peices of channel welded together) running down from the rockshaft to the wheels broke, so I fixed that with heavier than standard channel.I should add he's using it for primary tillage on last years corn ground, and he has an offset disk in very good condition that he doesn't want to use.

He borrows our small haybine a lot lately (tore his own up a couple years ago) and just about every time I notice something else that needs attention on it. He borrowed our green chopper once, never brought it back and when Dad went and got it it needed repair. He borrowed our small disk a number of years ago, used it behind his 100-110+HP tractor (we use it on an 80 HP tractor) and never brought it back. When we went and got it, he had it tore up. Borrowed our manure spreader and forgot to reengage the beater, broke the shear bolts on the apron and had to pitch it out by the beater.

We borrow his chopper wagons once in a while because it's convienient to have a few more in use when filling the silo. One year we put a used front 1/2 of a PTO shaft on one of his wagons from our spare parts inventory because the cross was shot and so were the yokes. We've replaced 1 & 1/2 PTO sheilds (don't know how they get destroyed, because ours still have the original ones).

I cringe everytime he comes over. Thankfully, as we replace a few things here & there, Dad tells him it's "my" equipment and I don't even let him run it. Some of it he just doens't want to run. Others, it's true. I don't even like letting my dad run some of it, but I have no problem letting him if it needs to be done.

I always pronounced it "Biftsplik", but today I learned I misspelled it. Google it for more fun.

A few years ago I was working for a mining contractor sinking a shaft in Carlsbad NM. We called one of our mechanics BROOMFOOT cuz everytime he came down to the work deck to work on something everything that was loose ended up at the bottom where he kicked it. BUT, what a skilled pilot.By the way, the name stuck.

My son is like that! I can mow all summer without a single problem. Put him on the machinery and plan on fixing something.

Ohhhhh, NO!!! In reading this thread, I realized SchlepRock is not always a guy... IT'S ME! One time rearranged the passenger side view mirror on our van backing it out of the garage. Last year on our brand new self-propelled mower - bumped the discharge shoot on a landscape item, it promtly fell off and the mounting hook was sliced off by the blades. Worst thing ever... a few years ago I brutally ripped the carburetor off our Cub Cadet while mowing around the swingset. I can't even begin to type "conversation" with husband after that one. Poor husband is married to SCHLEP - which I assume is worse than working with SCHLEP. [I do try not to touch much stuff around here anymore.]

I have a neighbor like that, I politely tell him no I don"t loan my equipment out, I barely have enough time to fix it myself, much less when someone breaks it for me.
