And if you wore cotton or wool, thank a farmer.
Or if you drove a vehicle powered in part by bio-diesel or alcohol...
Lots of farm products out there, we use daily.

we ate green beans, cucumbers, potatos, and squash today. all from our garden. gardening is farming on a small scale. my hats off to all the farmers, whatever the crop they are raising.

I always wanted a sticker saying: Farming- REAL World"s Oldest Profession. (sometimes the results are the same)

I have a good sized garden and it's always entertaining to have folks out who have no idea how where food really come from. You know, the ones who think food comes from the grocery store.

We've been canning, freezing, and eating out of the garden for several weeks now. Picked our first black eyed peas and cooked up with a ham hock for dinner this evening.

Nothing better than veggies fresh out of the garden.

Years ago I had a bumper sticker that read, "If you complain about farmers, don't talk with your mouth full"

If you used a toilet today thank a Plumber,if you were in a nice dry house today when it rained thank a home builder,if you drove a car thank an autoworker.Farmers need to get over thinking they're something special from the rest but really many are they're the only ones in the above list thats the Gov't has to pay them to make their contribution.

Traditional Farmer: Thanks for posting some truth but I doubt even a few regulars here will agree. One has to remember that most farmers have very little understanding of non-farming life. Few have lived & worked in a bigger city. In other words, most farmers do not understand much about how the rest of the worlds people live. Kinda sad farmers have such a narrow view of this world. I have about 35 years of big city life and about 30 years of 'on the farm' related life... plus military years etc..

(quoted from post at 06:35:39 06/17/12) Don't know about the tea but if it was coffee you need to thank Juan and his donkey for bringing it down off the mountain

and 7 Eleven for brewin it for ya....

I think I'm not better than the average Joe but when I'm driving a piece of farm equipment down a country road and some city transplants get mad(flash lights, blow horns & give finger signals) I wish I had a sign such as one of those displayed.

One of the reason farmers require govt contribution is the American public spends a smaller percentage of their wages on FOOD than in any other country!! One can survive without the plumber & builder but unless you're self sufficient in growing/processing your own food you can't get along without the farmer.

I would like to see double the price of food at the farm gate, and I'd willingly pay. Unfortunately, that would increase the over the counter price ten-fold due to all the middle men...

If we could somehow regulate the mark-up by non-farming middle men, and double the income to the farmer, then more people would go back into farming. "All" we need is reasonable start-up costs, and a decent living wage and we could be much, much more productive...

Happy farmers = happy nation of World Leaders, and not just in Agriculture...

My 2 cents, heck I'll give you 4...

First of all, I am a farmer, this is my 49th crop after serving 4 years in the USAF.
No one occupation is more important than many others. What can you do when you are out of fuel? What can you do when your tractor or other machinery is broken down? What can you do whem you are planting and the fertilizer truck doesn't show up?

Anyway you get the idea, we are all dependent on each other. Remember the story of the argument of the different body parts about which was most important. We are all helpless without all the other people that help make the world go around.
