Funny, things change when you get older....

Really figured it out the other night on a couple things.

When younger, rain messed up playing outside, outdoor sports, etc. Now, rain/weather runs my life with my real job along with second job of farming. I can"t do without it and hope it comes.

When younger, used to not like chores of working in the garden for Mom and Dad, dreaded it. Sunday, I was very happy to eat most of my dinner meal pulled straight from my own garden.

By the way, very dry here. Amazingly crops don"t look terrible, but no chances of rain for a week. I"m guessing this will be my first time for using that crop insurance I"ve been buying...

Amazing how much your parents knew. But we were to young dumb and stupid to listen.

Got 2 1/2 inches of rain yesterday. Some parts of Leon county got up to four. Supposed to be more coming our way.

Couldn't agree with you more. Had the honor of showing and helping my future grandson(step) to plant sweet corn with the 966 and 6 row planter. He is 13 and excited. Planted it on Monday night and got 3/4" rain last night. Enjoy tilling the garden and just growing the veggies.

I understand.

I hated operating and working on junk tractors and equipment growing up. Now I do it for fun.

Mowing the acre of lawn around the house and out buildings was the biggest waste of time and soooo boring I could hardly stand it. Now It's my "basket weaving" therapy.

I got a good scolding when I complained about home cooking and asked Mom for some store bought food. This was during my young and dumb stage of life. Now I'd just as soon eat out of the garden as go a restaurant or grocery store.

I'm watching my kids go through the stages of young and dumb. As a parent I went from all knowing to knowing nothing. They do come back around as my daughter, 25, is now coming back for advice and realizes maybe I do know a thing or 2. My son, 21, isn't quit there yet.

Remember when someone asked how you were going and you would reply "a ball of muscle".
Well had that the other day, lifted my right leg to put on a slipper and this painful ball hit me in the muscle, hard as a rock, in between the ouching and damnit, I managed to massage it away. Never got that when young.

Same here... 23 year old daughter now says, "Wow, you and dad were so right about so many things!" 17 year old son is not there yet - for sure.

Wife and I consider ourselves sucessful as parents! Couple of years ago overheard one daughter tell the other,"Sometimes Mom and Dad are real azzholes, but they usually know what they're talking about."

Son leaves home at age 16 so he can get away and do things his way. Returns home at 24 and says "Wow, has the old man ever changed. He thinks just like I do now!"

Nancy, I always tell folks about things done when you are young and stupid. Sadly, for some it's a lot easier getting over being young...:). Mike
