king cutter gear box

I have a 5 foot king cutter (bushhog style mower)
Today the spline that attaches to the stump jumper came all the way out of the machine
with stump jumper and blades still attached.
machine is about 18 years old and in fair shape.
I only cut about 7 acres of horse pasture with it. King cutter wants $285.00 for a complete new gear box. Have not remove the rest of gear box
yet,so not sure what that looks like, but wondering has anyone repaired one, short of getting brand new gear box. Tom

those gearboxes are pretty easy to work on if you are mechanically inclined .i had one do that on a brushhog brand bushog a nut just backed off and let everything just drop right out the bottom.i tore it apart put all new bearings and seals in it and was good to go.

He don't need to do the freight thing, he gots an agri-supply store, right in Petersburg Va, off wagner Rd. Might be a short enough trip, for him. I've been there, in better times, when we usta have jobs and an economy!
