spark plug wires

When you guy need plug wires for your tractor or odd ball engine where do you get them. I went to the NAPA parts store today wanting to buy wire by the foot and the ends so I could make up my own wires. The told me they don't sell it anymore. To get the set I needed I would have to buy a v/8 set, take out the 4 wires I need and throw away the other 4.

I am guessing a NAPA store more in the rural areas might still sell Belden wire by the foot?????
Anyone on here have any experience making wires.

My local NAPA had a 4 wire plus coil wire set on the shelf last week or thereabouts, I would think yours could get you one too. Is there a trick to sliding the boots over the wires? Mine always seem to require a ridiculous amount of force to slide into place.

I have had very good service from "Hi Performance" wires from Autozone..
The "LOW RESISTANCE" type..
They DO have a carbon core..BUT, that core is tightly wound with a solid conductor that, when I have them cut to length I Solder to the Mag/Dist end...
Even the shortest one is long enough for my JD "B" and JD 630..enough to do 4 JD's..!
I can tell ya, you don't want to get "HIT" with a jolt from those wires..!!
Ron..

Spray silicone or better yet, silicone grease.

I've bought a do-it-yourself kit for a V-8..
Used what I needed for the 2 or 4 cylinder - plenty spare parts for next job. Same price as 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder.

Throw away the extra 4 wires why the heck do that. When U buy a set now days yep I get the V-8 set since it is close by as in 7 miles one way and keep the extras so I have a set when ever I need but then I almost never throw away any thing that I can figure out how to use later

that is the only way i make my own wires. i buy the wire by the roll and ends by the bag. find it hard to believe that it cant be bought any more.

The 4 wire set at this NAPA had straight ends at the plugs, I need 90 degree ends there. The longest wire in the set was 36 inches, My longest wire is close to 4 feet. The only wire set that had 90 degree ends at the plugs was the V/8 set.

This local store did say I could buy an entire roll of wire. I don't need 100 feet or what ever comes on a roll. I don't need 4 extra wires to lay around. Looks like it's all about selling you more than you need.

Had the same experience with local NAPA stores; but was able to buy it by the foot at the NAPA warehouse in Mesquite, TX.

After moving to the farm last summer, bought solid core spark plug wire by the foot and the ends from ABC Auto Parts in Mt. Pleasant, TX.

Made last set of 4 wires for the pony motor on "Big John" our 55 Model 70 diesel.

Use this "quick lube" stuff on a lot of rubber parts.

Tractor Supply may have what you're looking for. I have seen a kit with wire and ends you assemble yourself there.

Summit racing or Jegs performance has just about any size wire and boots you can imagine.

You need a better Napa store, I just bought a Belden set last week at mine, I can get u the part number when I get home. It is a 4 wire set with the spark plug end on it and u cut to length and put the other end and boot on it. Spray a little silicon on to slide the boot. they also sell 6 wire sets. A&I has them too for about the same money.

I still work with things that need odd size solid wire core plug wires. My NAPA store supplied me(they had to order it) with a 50 ft roll of wire and a good assortment of terminal ends and boots.
From my stock car racing days I still have the little crimping tools that came with universal race plug wire sets to put the "correct" crimp in the terminal ends.
