farmall 706 gas opinion- pros,cons

Depends what you're doing with it. On a spreader in winter it's great. Trying to do all your hay and tillage with one...they're thirsty. Gas is about $4.00 a gallon up here, farm diesel is about $3.60. The savings on the diesel are significant. But, if you can get the 706 cheap because of that it might work out for you.

Your choice.

Could that have been from using the wrong oil? Just a thought. I don't speak from experience on 706's but mine and a friend's 666G both had valve failure from wrong oil.

One word- thristy. I use one for pulling a 6 row 7000planter and for applying 28% and just doing those things it isn't real cheap to run.

I had a bare back model years ago and it was a decent tractor, lots of power. I pulled a 4/16" trailer plow with it just fine burning four to five gallons an hour. It heated up the gas tank pretty good (hot to the touch) and with the vented gas cap it probably boiled off some gas. I sold it to a dairy farmer who wanted it for a grinder because it started real well in winter. I religiously used IH low ash oil that is made for these tractor.

One at a sale here last week brought $3400. Friend of mine who is an expert on them says guys are buying them and dropping a Cummins into them to save some fuel. My 806 is still going strong.
