farmall h sleeves

I,m trying to remove the pistons from my farmall h and they stop as I reach a wear ridge on the top of the sleeves. What is the best way to get by these. Damaging the sleeves is not an issue since I have to replace both sleeves and pistons. Also, the sleeve diameter at the top is approx. .475 in. I think the pistons are 3 7/16 in. Is this difference wear? thank you all!

If you are replacing everything anyway I would just take a 1x1" piece of hickory or oak and an 8 lb hammer and tap them up from below. Either the piston will pop free of the sleeve or the sleeve will come up out of the block. If the parts are salvageable you would want to do it more gently.

Use a ridge reamer to remove the ridge at the top of the sleeves then you can drive out the pistons. Use a sleeve puller to remove the sleeves. Pull the engine and have the crankshaft measured for wear. Buy your new bearings from them. They won't grind it undersize unless it needs it. Have new cam bearings installed. Take a look at the clutch it probably needs to be rebuilt. Hal

This is what I built to push the sleeves up out of a 153 BUDA engine when I couldn't get the pistons out. If your sleeve protrude down thru the bore it should push them out. You push them a 1/2" up then they come right out. It slips right over the Rod so it pushes on the sleeve

As with any engine rebuild the correct tool for the job and in this case a ridge reamer is what you need simple $25 tool that is needed for any engine rebuild
