A friend of mine who was at D-day got invited this year to Arlington Cemetery for Memorial Day. Some division of the US Government paid his travel, room and board. For him and his wife. Kind of nice. It was totally unsolicited. He got the letter in the mail and it was a big surprise to him. Not sure how many vets were invited. I'm cognizant that Memorial Day is for deceased vets - not the living ones. But, you can't have much of get-together unless there are some living people around. Not unless you count cemeteries that are permanent "get-togethers."

I shot trap and skeet for quite a few years with one of the gentleman standinging in front of Eisenhower in the most famous picture before Overlord. His name was Hans Sannes...and even being up in years he was always great to be around and a real stitch.
