Well the head is off, and its the gasket {thank goodness) by the looks of things the water neck hose was recently replaced, I bet she got a lil hot. It melted the plastic like grommets on the gasket. It was in the back of the motor.
 
I take it you think the rear end of the engine was very hot. If that is right, you may have a buildup of dirt and crud between the number six sleeve and the back of the block. Not as uncommon as you may think. If that's happening, eventually that sleeve will get so hot that the piston will seize. I've seen it in a fair number of engines and two years ago it happened to my 880. That engine I never thought would have that problem because it got flushed yearly since new.
