some people...

It amazes me what some people say on craigslist. I just saw an add
saying someone was looking for a tractor 50+ hp and they wanted
the tractor to have a wide front, 2 sets of remotes, a 3pt, pto and in
overall good running condition and he said he wanted to spend
$1500.

Is it just me or do people like this just need to shut up? What is the
point in putting such an ad on craigslist? Does he think he will
HONESTLY get what he wants for what he wants to spend?

Sometimes I wonder if people like that are actually familiar with tractors, or even know what they are talking about.
I once bought a gold mine sight unseen, but all I got was the shaft.

It's not just on Craigs list; it happens here too...usually in reverse: people telling you how rare their $5500 Super C, or $4800 JD A, or $6700 Farmall M...you get the idea anyway. Most folks here know what's rare, and what's not, a guy can ask anything he likes, just don't insult me by telling me your '48 plain old H is so rare...and I don't care how much you spent on it either, or how your '50 A is "Expo Quality"! Soooo what? It's still a '50 A and the H is still a '48 H, and they are great tractors but they are only worth so much no matter what you have done, and they are two of the most common tractors ever produced!

don't be so quick to judge..... you don't know the guy's situation and there just might be someone out there that would rather see their stuff go to someone just starting out on a shoestring than see it go to the vultures (read family) when he kicks off.........

That person isn't in touch with real world. Now imagine them being a part of a "Jury of Your Peers", God forbid you would ever be in that situation.
It is scary.

Heck, I've seen that on this forum. A lot of folks really don't know or are years out of date on what things cost.

could be 2 things, either the price is missing a couple of 00's on the end, or he is a city fella, just bought some acrage, and he's been 'told what he needs' but since he's never owned a tractor in his life, he doesnt know what the kind of tractor he wants costs

You might be surprised, he might end up getting one heck of a deal from one of his friends in Nigeria. Wire the money and......well you know the rest.

AND it is possible someone is phishing for a scam artists, reverse action. Maybe it"s the FBI, I"m sure they don"t have much else to do.

Could be a typo, but I think people believe tractors depreciate as fast cars. Unfortunately for them is most tractors" usefulness way out lives that of a car.

You don't get much of a car for $1500 either...

No doubt SOMEBODY in that mix is out of touch. Either the advertiser, or whoever told him what to advertise for.

Of course this is a free country and if you want it to remain free you have to take the bad with the good. Ignore the idiots. They'll go away.

I guess I better shut up, cause this sounds like anywhere in the northeast. He is discribing an MF50 that needs work, private sale. I already filled my quota... in that price range. I never consider myself lucky, but maybe I am? Or am I just dreaming I got a yard full of fergies?????? Nope. Looked out the window...they are still there....

Well........the neighbors Oliver 1600 fit that discription and only brought $1700 two years ago.

I see that all the time in the automotive business. People put $5,000 into a $2,000 pickup and expect to sell it for $10,000.

Then there are the ones who think adding a 6" lift to a 4X4 pickup adds $5,000 to the value, when it actually does the opposite.

Doesn't cost anything to try- and who knows, he might just find a seller who is as out of touch as he is.

maybe a stupid question... and definitely off subject, but did anyone ever make a 50+ hp tractor with anything but a wide front end?

There out there. I've got a 770 that I paid 1200 for. A 1550 that I've got about 1400 in, and and 1800 that I've spent about 300 on. Yes thats 3 hundred. Not show tractors for sure, but they all fit the discription and I cut hay with the 770 sunday, raked the hay with the 1550 today and I worked the corn ground with the 1800 this spring. Me thinks SOME PEOPLE need to not woory about other people so much. You have a nice day, my young friend.

When my brother-in-law asked me to go on his bail in 2005,he promised if I ever needed it he would be there to lend a hand. Well I'm broke and he only offered me one finger.

we all want a great tractor for a bargain price, but that doesnt mean we should all go on craigslist and put a wanted ad.

those are nice looking tractors!

Around NE Ohio, even an ugly old oliver 4 digit that is running decent will bring at least 4k if it is a diesel and has remotes, 3pt, wide front.

yup just about every brand. JD made 730, 2510, 2520, 4010, 4020, and IH made plenty too like the 706, 806 etc

In short just about every brand did

isnt that the truth. around here lots and lots of 40+ year old tractors are worked everyday! Most cars that old arent around and those that are around are for show.

I feel like people nowadays figure out what things are worth before
they put them on craigslist. 5-6 years ago people would undervalue
things tremendously, but now, I feel like almost everything in the
farm/garden is either the right price or overpriced.

There is guy around here like that who has at least three adds in the local free at the gas station classified paper. It's got'n to be a joke between me and few other people wander'n what he wants or has to offer next. Last two wanted adds were one about like your's only he wanted a loader and it had to look good and he wants a good 270 bolt gun or a crossbow. He has 207 acres of strip ground and is always wanted some one to do bush hog work in exchange for fishing rights on his 7 lakes. He leases out his place for hunting by the week and month. So many $ for the month of October, so many for November,,, it just goes on and on,,,,
