Tractor Fire

Was 102 F out here in central coast California, and saw a tractor that was on fire yesterday. Person had been running it in a field of well groomed dirt, so the fire wouldn't spread. The Fire Dept was there and trying to hose out the fire with water, but it wasn't going out, probably trying to cool the burning substance down (hyd fluid?) and blow out the fire...couldn't tell what brand tractor as I was too far away...made me think I should fix all those leaks I have on mine so it won't catch like that.

Or the 30 dollar premium for fire insurance.... I used to carry an extinguisher. Worst mistake I ever made, tractor had problems from then on.

I agree that the insurance premium seems very cheap when you're watching a piece of equipment burn. I participated in that program twice. First was a JD rd baler and 2nd time was a Ford cab tractor.

Keepin them cleaned off I would think would help the cause... I know skidloaders get stuff under the motor area, etc. I power wash it out very often.. Tractor maybe once, twice year. my two cents

On my tractor a wire shorted out under the cab while my employee was cutting hay. My rd baler that I was operating had a failed bottom tailgate brg that dropped fire several places in the field. Once the belts on rd baler catch on fire after emptying 2-1/2 gallon fire extinguisher it's getting close to past time to unhook tractor.

Just finished replacing entire wiring harnesses and AC hoses on a Kubota MX 108 today. Birds built a nest on top of engine and exhaust set it off. Owner saw smoke and got it extinguished before it got out of hand. Still cost over 2 grand to repair.

I just added a extinguisher to my other mowing tractor today. I started a fire a couple weeks ago, was able to stomp it out. Been meaning to do it ever since. Sran

A big farm to the north of here, lost a John Deere 9320 articulator a couple of weeks ago. Burnt to the ground. One set of wheel weights survived.
