OT/back to Dallas

Coming back to Dallas after spending the weekend at the farm can be interesting.

As I turn onto our street, I wonder "what have the animals gotten into this time".

With 4 house cats, 2 dogs, 3 horses and 2 barn cats its always something.

The bedroom, computer room and bathroom in the house are off limits for the cats and the doors are kept shut. I think one of the cats has figured out how to open doors. Twice last week, I came home after work to find the door to the computer room open and when I got home last night, the bathroom door was open.

The clean towels were pulled off the shelf and the kitties had made them into a bed.

Gathered the towels and a few other things and headed for the washer out in the garage. Opened the back door to the very strong smell of skunk. Not a good sign.

The dogs were in the garage door barking. Great. That meant they had the skunk hemmed up in the garage.

Took the laundry back to the house and headed for the barn wondering what nonsense I would find there. Noticed one of my horses had started his usual summer mane rubbing which means he now has to be bathed about twice a week or he'll rub his mane off. Will take care of that after work tonight.

Got the horses fed and everything in the barn squared away and headed back to the house. Got the flashlight (it was after dark) and carefully checked a couple of areas in the garage around the washer/dryer for the skunk. Didn't see it and quickly removed the dogs' food dishes and water tub. Dogs were maintaining their vigil in the garage door.

Figured the skunk would never leave while the dogs were blocking the only exit and I did not want a skunk residing in the garage, so back to the barn.

Put the storm windows on the small horse trailer, then went back to the house and got the dogs. They got to spend the night in the horse trailer, but that meant I had to get up early this morning to return them to the back yard.

Hopefully, the skunk's experience in the garage was bad enough he won't return.

Biggest mistake I made was not shutting the A/C down. The unit is located next to the garage and it pumped the aroma into the house. Ooops. Turned the A/C fan to the "on" position to help clear out the smell.

Never a dull moment.

Larry I am like you, where was James all that time. Was he staying with the animals? I am sure you all will get things back to normal again.

I have problem with skunks too. Catch them in steel traps sometimes.
