Tractor Recommendation

I am helping a museum find a tractor that will be a general purpose machine (light duty/quantity). I am looking for it to be gas, with a 3pt hitch, usable with a loader, usable with a flail/rotary mower, post hole digger, maybe some lite discing, older (40s-60s) and easily maintainable and around $2K-2500. Any suggestions? I was thinking an old ford, but know that the n series didn't have independent PTO (which I think would be good for folks not use to running a mower). Thanks for any suggestions.

If you are looking for a utility sized tractor, with IPTO and POWER STEERING (for loader work) I really don't think that you are going to find something in that 2000-2500 range. You are going to be the 4000-6000 range. Then another consideration is OSHA. If an employee is going to run it then it has to meet current OSHA standards because a museum is not a farming operation. That means ROPs and safeties.

Thanks for the quick response.

It doesn't have to be power steering as it won't be used with a loader much. I guess IPTO isn't mandatory, but I didn't want somebody using a mower and pressing in the clutch to think it would stop on a dime.

Hadn't thought about those dang safety points. I will make sure to check into it before buying anything.

Starting at 1955 most Fords were built with independent PTO. They could be had with out it but most that you come across do have it.

Mid to late ford 4000 or 4600 is what you need

The N series lacks the features you need

Also, you should think of maintance as all of the old stuff will require someone who knows how to fix stuff and get old stuff started

Batt terminals, electrical, gas line issues, beoken parts etc etc etc

Simple solution to none IPTO is an over running clutch. I use one on my 8N for mowing and brush cutting. Wouldn't want to run a loader on it without PS.

Might want to see if there is an exemption for a living desply????
