OT -- Question on old country song

Any body know the title to the song that contains the lyrics "give me a gal who'll be kind to my dog, and teach my kids how to pray."

Heard it on a "Bonanza" episode.

I think the line from Black Sheep is "Wake me up early ,be good to my dogs and teach my children to pray" but I could be wrong.

there's a site called "lyricist" or something like that that lets you search by lyrics. But, I think you want the John Anderson "Black sheep of the family" song.

It was likely written or adapted for that episode by David Rose. He and his orchestra were in charge of all music on Bonanza episodes at that time and he wrote many songs for the show. That song you refer to was aired in season 2, 1961. The show was titled "Sam Hill." One of the songs was "The Legend of Sam Hill" written by Rose that may be the one you mention.

"I'm tired of honky-tonk women . I'm tired of traveling around . I'm tired of Suzy and Curly and Kate . I'm thinking of settling down . Give me a girl who'll be kind to my dog and teach my kids how to pray. "

I have all the Bonanza episodes on German and French DVDS but not all come with original soundtracks. The original Bonanza has Lorne Green (pa Cartwright" singing the Bonanza song with lyrics. That one is hard to find. Later - Johnny Cash did it and it was a hit song for awhile. David Rose wrote that song as well.

The reason why I've got foreign DVDS is because that is the only way to get original soundtracks. USA DVDs don't have them due to the added cost of music royalties.

Lot of people may have forgotten that Lorne Greene recorded lots of songs. How well is open to discussion.

Lorne did a good job on the Bonanza theme, but Johny Cash did it a bit better (it was #1 on charts). But yeah, I remember Lorne's records and singing, along with his Alpo dog-food commercials.

Adam "Cartwright", i.e. Pernell Roberts also sang and cut a few record albums.

Thanks for the Bonanza memories, seems like maybe Sunday night it was on, maybe Saturday don"t remember except we didn"t have cable yet in our little town and probably only CBS and NBC off the antenna in the beginning. Kids in a half circle with a bowl of popcorn watching tv was common in our house
