Value of a 3020 JD

My neighbor and I went and looked at a 3020 JD with a loader that has been sitting for the last four years. Diesel, not a power shift, sheet metal poor. Hit by a tree, steering wheel broken, shifter broken. Rear tires decent. Owner says it was running and had a new clutch shortly before being parked. Loader appears to be in good shape. It has a low exhaust so I assume that there hasn't been water in the engine. Owner is an older gentlemen who retired from farming years ago, and kept one tractor. How does one put a value on such a tractor? The owner is customer at my shop. I want to be fair. Is it even worth fixing, or part it out? I understand that sight unseen it is very difficult to answer this, but just looking for some opinions. Thanks,

A diesel JD 3020 will bring $4500-5500 if it runs. The loader will only add to the value. I would try to see if you can get it to run. If not then I would only give scrap price for it. That would be $2500-3500 depending on the model loader.

What model loader, tire condition and scrape price in your area? Sounds like beaten machine that only received service when it quit running.

Utility or row crop? My brother has a 3020 utility and was told it was pretty rare. If it has the mongrel 24v starter run for cover. The dash hydraulics are pretty involved to adjust, I read the procedure....

I drove it for awhile, while I am sure there are those that like that set up, I did not care for it.

If just a loader rig it will probably be ok, but as a main chore tractor be really sure you want it.

You may want to pick up a service manual and see just how rigorous some of the procedures are.

On my brothers rig, the battery hot starter cable chaffed through the insulation and shorted against the diesel supply to the pump. Made for quite a fire until he got the cable off.

I rebuilt every component in my 4020 there's nothing rigorous about any of it if your ten percent smarter than a socket set . Still have the original 24 volt stater to the same goes for it
