I'm looking at this m&w 456 rake, and I was wondering if anyone has used this rake and if it is any good? I will be raking windrows from a 499 New Holland haybine, so I expect a few bunches to have to rake, I can pick this rake up for 1500. Please tell me what you think. Thanks for reading!

I have a ten wheel vermeer carted rake, I love it. Rakes much more uniformly than a bar rake, no wads of hay. I rake 2 windrows together out of a 488 and 489 9' NH's can rake 3.

I use a 12 wheel rake but it is not a carted rake. If you have uneven ground then you will hate that carted rake. It will do everything but rake right. When you go down through a low spot it will tear out the hay like a tiller. Then when you go over a high spot it will leave most of the hay.

Also for $1500 you are not going to get much of a rake. I would really check the individual teeth out. On a wheel rake the teeth wear right at the flat ring that all of the teeth go through. They pivot right there. They get worn. You will start out losing a few teeth and then they really fail in a hurry. Had a friend buy a used wheel rake. He made one lap around his field with it set correctly but the teeth where worn badly. He lost twenty teeth. He had steel teeth in that out side round for years.

I have one like the one pictured. Sitrex makes all of the following wheel rakes: M&W, New Holland, Sitrex, and CIH

I have a H&S hi-cap 14 wheel rake very similar to the one in the photo. It will rake as good or better than a Vermeer R23 that I had owned earlier.
