I have a John deere 4230 that is having an issue starting. If I turn the key to start, the starter will continue to turn the engine even if I turn the key off.I have replaced 2 starters, the starter relay and the key switch. If anyone could shed some light on this problem please help me.

Check and see if it has had a second relay added to just carry the starter solenoid current. There is a kit that does this to remove the current load off of the key switch. If it has one it could be sticking. If it does not have one, install one. The high starter current voltage draw can cause the switch contacts to internally stick. Also you some times get low voltage through the harness. This can make the starter solenoid weld the contacts. The relay you wire the hot supply right from the battery cable. Then the key circuit just has to engage the relay.

There is a starter relay mounted on the firewall that I have replaced. Is there another one mounted on the starter?

I beleive you guys are right I charged the batteries over nite and it started fine. The alternator says it is charging fine but the batteries must be bad. They were just put in new last fall.
