ih 574 differential lock

I recently bought a nice used 1974 IH 574 tarctor with a 2000 loader on it, my problem is wheel spin, doesn't appear to have a locking differential pedal. Did some of these come without a locking differential? I have seen some with the pedal on the right side, mine has no pedal and only one wheel spins which really cuts down on what you can do with the loader or box blade. Help! Thank you for any help you can offer, I'm new to the farm tractor ownership.

I don't know why some tractors came without a diff lock. When I bought my JD 401 industrial I didn't realize it didin't have a diff lock. I found this out when I got stuck in soft sand with my flail mower. I had to get pulled out. I was told if you use the brake on the wheel that is spinning, the other wheel will take over, if you become stuck, which may help. Stan

I am not sure if it was optional as the few we had around here all had it but a little brake use on the spinning wheel will usually do almost as good a job.

You need more weight on the rear. The brake on the spinning wheel helps. Load the tires. Then put about 500 LBS on each wheel and it will pull and push like a big tractor.

Thank you all for your replies, I'm going to try the brake idea and also maybe filling the tires with water/antifreeze for some extra weight. I was going to replace the tach, does anybody know where the cable connects to? Mine is completely missing and as I really don't need it I would like to have it for hour tracking and I guess pto speed for shredding. Thanks again for the great responses.
