Why does the worst plowing happen near the road?

Had to plow a couple of acres by the road for my sister last night, has been in grass at least 35 years. New to me 3 bottom KV85ab plow so I scuffed the boards up in a patch I plowed last year thats waiting to be disced.

Plowing out, first pass laid over beautiful, stop and readjust for the next pass, after that, only every 2nd pass was any good. The grounds so rocky, one of the boards would trip out every 20 ft, messing the furrows each time.

Also, my new tires are wider, and I don't have the wide body boards on my plow to let bigger tires fit in the furrow.

Lastly, I got done and was eyeballing the plow, I think one of the beams is bent and pulling off kilter.

What a mess when you stand back and look at it! I hope it hurries up and dries so I can disc it asap.

On making a mess near the road, it's part of Murpyh's Law. That's where your neighbors can look at your mess and be critical of your sloppy farming habits. Ha.

Had a local family of 5 girls growing up and had the garden close to the Farm-Market road. In planting they wanted the okra plants on the outside row near the road to reduce the ability of their friends and "bo's" to see them out there working. Another Ha!

Thats why when I was farming I tried to get along the roads where the neighbors could see it plowed then disked real quick lol It always looked so nice to mow the roadsides like a golf course also

Same reason that I always get one or two crookedrows when I'm inline with a kitchen window...The rest of the field is 'arrow straight'.Go figure

Had one run in the seed drill bunging up when I planted the field near the road. But I thought no one will see the odd miss, as I had planted parellel to the road. Wrong ..... next door neighbour took the time to point it out to me. I was indeed grateful.

Look at it this way, do your worst work and use the least amount of fertilizer along the highway and it gets you a lot of sympathy from your neighbors. It makes them feel so smug about themselves too. Joe

A crooked row is longer than a straight row, given the size of the field, so you can grow more plants. Morale: it is more economical to plant crooked rows ;-)

Maybe you were watching all the girls go by on the road instead of the field ? LOL
That's what I'd be doing. Guy I worked with put his mower in a ditch when neighbor lady was jogging by.

Same thing happens when I park my Harley outside a bar where everyone can see it.Kick start only and starts in direct corelation to the number of people watching while you jump up and down on it! Hoss

Had my worst plowing last year--so bad I just left it. This year I plowed on both sides of the worst and planted corn around it. The bad area I'll plant pumpkins and smooth it out next time.

When mowing hay I make it a point to always follow safe procedures. This includes leaving a holiday near the road so that as the mowing inspectors drive by they can see it instantly, instead of having to crane their necks the whole way by in order to try to see one. If they didn't see it quickly they would be sure to run off the road and I would be to blame.
