I bought this tractor last fall. It had a JD 740 loader on it that was brand new. The loader had never even been used. I was needing a JD 740 for a friend that wanted it. I found this complete package at a reasonable price. The tractor just needed some little things mechanically: alt. needed new bearings, new batteries, new battery cables, and rebuilt the rear SVC couplers as they leaked.

It did need a complete new interior and the paint was just SO-SO. I painted the tractor and my youngest son installed the interior. Here is some pictures he took when he was done. I think that the JD 4450 and JD 4455 are real sharp looking tractors. We are going to use it a little and make sure it is all in good working order. Then we are planning on selling it.

I don't know if it's age, or ignorance, but I consider those series the ultimate. A "super" 4020. When I went looking for a high HP MFWD my sights were set on finding a 4960. I ended up finding a Magnum much less expensive.
After the 60 series I can't keep track of and don't recognize numbers/models.
I have a neighbor with a big JD and a big Ford. The numbers are very similar. I tell him to call them "big green", or "big blue" so I know what he's talking about!

That turned out great! Looks like my neighbor's 4240, just a different number. His has the same optional steps which makes it easy to climb in and out of.

Good looking tractor, especially great tires, they look like they are in excellent shape!! Hope it all works as planned.
BTW, if these are current pictures of your just completed work, you may want to change the date setting on your camera..... otherwise you are 4 plus years off with lush green outside on Jan. 1st!!! No biggie here on YT, but if you plan on using those pics as sales pictures... may not help you being trustworthy to potential customers..... Just my thoughts, Ralph in OK.

It is a Quad-range. I would rather it was a 15 sp. but the loader was the main thing I was buying. It should work out alright anyway. Around here the Quads still sell pretty good.

Ralph thanks for the heads up. The new camera the wife has eats batteries up fast. Every time you change the batteries it losses the date/year. It is a real PIA to reset. I usually just let it be. She thinks she can edit the date out of the pictures

My Grandpa always had Allis Chalmers, so I favor them. That said, I do like the looks of those first John Deeres! Don't tell my JD buddy from elementary school though, as we fought about that for hours on end! LOL

Nice looking tractor. Ignore the black axle comment, I like the look of yellow axles much better.I think it takes alot of nerve or something else to even mention something like that about someones tractor.

I don't sweat the axle color. It has a set of 10 bolt axle duals that go with it so the hubs will ruin any paint on the axles anyway.
