Considering a White 2-85, thoughts?

I may be going to look at a White 2-85. What are some things to look at? Any weak points? Are these generally thought of as a good tractor or something to avoid? They are not many Whites around this area. I will be using it mostly on the round baler, however it would get some tillage work too.

Thanks,

I think AGCO takes care of these now. I don't know the tractor but suggest you check into parts support and get your dealers thoughts. He may try to sell you something on his lot so be careful.
You might check Aftermaeket parts suppliers like Stiner to see what they have. The price of parts can just kill you any more.

I'm not much of a White/Oliver guy(I like em). Here is my 'take' on the 2-85.Its basicly a 1655 Oliver in some new'clothes'.I believe they are pretty good tractors, pretty tough, too.Don't know much about parts support...Ask on the White/Oliver board.

They are generally thought of as a pretty stought tractor. White bought Oliver, and then through several aquisitions it is now part of AGCO. It has a perkins engine which os reliable, and the same basic engine was also turbo charged and used in the White 2-105.

The tractor is more or less an Oliver 1755 with a Perkins instead of the Waukesha. If you have the part numbers, you can order almost anything from any willing AGCO dealer. Once in a while if I don't want to go to 2 dealerships for our tractors, I'll call the closer one which is a Massey dealer (also under the AGCO umbrella) and have them stock order parts for the Olivers as well as the Masseys.

I have never run a White, did look at a 120 and a 2-105. Is the 2-85 open station or cab? My biggest turn off to the whites were the cab door and the layout of the controls. The cab door doesn't open very wide and the steps are narrow not a tractor I would want on my baler (I'm a big boy and climbing up and down off those whites to unplug a baler didn't look appealing).

Delta- the tractor you're thinking of is the 2-70. The 2-85 had the closed center hydraulics like the bigger 55 series Olivers.

Relative to others in that size, very heavy. Should be stout/stable to run with baler, etc. Perkins good engine. Looked at a 2-105 a couple years back, but went too high at the auction for me. I'd go for it if it is a nice one, price.

They are not the best looking tractor in my opinion, but if it is in good shape it will be a good tractor. They are easy to work on, reliable, economical and parts are easy to get.
