Hay last weekend - pics

Mowed 2 acres of hay to try out my 'new to me' NI 5209 discbine. Weather mid 70's and dry. Only made 65 bales/acre. Lacking much rain here in SE PA plus we had no snow and the ground never froze hard, meaning it did not loosen up. I rake with the Ferguson TO-20, tedd with a JD 2010 and bale with a JD 4020. Last photo is our 4-H lambs.

it has it's quirks. The hydraulics have always been weak and the power steering quit 2 years ago. Otherwise it is very reliable running and always starts in the cold. They say 2010's love gas and I have to agree. But I like the narrow 12" tires as I use it to spray the fields, so it doesn't track much. I understand the 2010 diesels were prone to cracked blocks. I saw a couple at a salvage yard, and yes, they were cracked. If I did it over, I would go for a 3020. I was new and the price was right.

Very nice pictures. It looks peaceful. I spent the day at a doctors office in the city and looking at your pictures is relaxing to me. Thanks. Bob

Hope all is well. I have to do that this week too. I really don't mind the office, it's the Hospital stuff that bugs me. I've had my share, like all worker bees.

Well that's just great!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whoopee for you!!!!!!!!!!! My hay patch looks like the Saraha desert and if I wasn't so lazy I'd get a pic of it.........waiting.....waiting....Grin.

Naw, Seriously, super congratulations, super looking patch I am happy for you. Didn't know that they had cotton trailers in PA.

I had seed that needed a 65 degree average ground temp to germinate and we had cool nights until about 3 weeks ago. Problem is that when you wait till late in the season, you don't get the moisture that you get early on. So I did and I didn't and it probably won't make.

I may plant rye this fall so that I can get off a hay crop next spring before it turns off dry.

Really, beautiful patch and I am most happy for you.

Mark

thanks, we plowed and seeded this last August. Orchard grass mostly, but alot of meadow grass actually came up so I cut it early. The meadow grass( or whatever) browns out quickly.
