hand hewing cedar for fun

I spent a few hours today hewing a couple red cedars into a Mail box standard. I used timber framing techniques and draw bored the joints. Was a pleasant way to spend the afternoon.

Nice to see someone retain and pass on the old skills. My grandpa was supposed to be pretty good with an adz. He died when I was too young to learn.

Matt, that looks like A # 1 job you did with that ADZ. I wish I could do the same.
The ADZ axe looks good.

I happen to have one almost like it hanging in my shop in my hammer collection.
I call mine A BROAD AXE. Years ago they use them to make cross ties for the rail road.
