Deer #'s - it's all about money...

Not to highjack the previous post. Deer hunting and hunting in general is revenue that the states are depending on. So it is whatever they can do to bring in more money, hence the antler restrictions. We have it here in MO too - what a bunch of crap - they just want bigger bucks in the news to draw in more out of state money. I believe non-res deer license is now $225.00. I used to hunt PA OH and MI before moving to MO. I did and still do believe MO does a pretty good job of conservation but they will also try like he!! to find something to fine you for. On openeing day of pheasant season, the only thing thicker than the peasant is the wardens. I may be niave but I don't think we have the poaching issues of several decades ago - least none that I hear of.

My best friend and hunting buddy is a conservation agent here. I always make sure to be 100% legal when he is around. Dont want to cause a rift.

He is always telling me stories on what the higer ups in the dept. do. They sure control a racket.

This whole thing with introductin Elk in Mo. is a big joke. All they want is to get something for the rich folks to shoot.

And the way they pulled it off, basically in secret. And they claimed to have all this prepared habitat for them, complet with all kinds of browse and food plots. NOT.

The damned things will be tearing up fences all over the place before long.

neighbor just lost a 500lb pony - was caught by the throat and dragged about 30 yards - but dept of conservation says we have no mountain lions here - just an occasional passing through! 3rd sighting within a year and the previous one was shot and killed in the neighboring county.

Last I hear the conservation dept say yes there are big cats in Missouri just not ones that take up residence here so yes they are here but yes passing threw on there way to who knows where. Down in this area of Missouri there is one maybe 2 agents to the country so it is hard for them to keep up with all that goes on.

Old, I am in the northeast corner of Missouri and there ARE mountain lions in this area. One made the news that was caught on a wildlife camera. There was no doubt. Mike

The last time I talked to an Agent, he said there were no known breeding pairs here yet. All they had found have been young males, you know that will change with one lost Tabby. NEMO too

Yep I knew that. Many years ago there was a black one in this area but no one with conservation would agree that it was here but many people told them it was but since back then it was hard to get a picture at night to prove it they said we didn't have them. Of course there is also this in the fall deer hunting reg booklets that say it is not legal to shoot a big cat so if they are not here why have that in the booklet

DEER -It is really all about money. Here in Pa the guys can't even sort thru the propaganda the Game Commission puts out. They say they killed 350K deer(doe and buck) in Pa last year. There are 700K licensed hunters, but their report states that the kill is at 24%. That is almost 50% when I do the math. Guys on here post PGC print as if it is gospel. "Hunt Harder" what a joke!

be glad they deny they are there because if they said you have them then the environmentalist could say they are endangered or threaten in your state then the fall under the endangered specieces act and then you cannot do anything that manipulates their habitat

No, it's not about money. It's about giving a few well-connected people with no ambition of their own cushy do-nothing government jobs.

There is no way for what they charge for a permit that the bureaucracy makes any money at it. Too many fingers in the pie.

In SC the game department says no mountain lions(I've seen one, neighbor has pic of one) but they are an endangered species and there is $10k fine for shooting one. I always thought it was funny fo fine you for shooting an animal that dosen't exist.
