jd 2510 gas swap to diesel

No totally different bell housing(clutch housing) required for each engine. 2510 utilizes what is known as 300 series engines. 2510 could be more valuable(collectible wise) with a gasoline engine than diesel.

i bought the tractor with the motor apart and missing most of the motor parts so i'm trying to find another motor what would be the most common machine to pull a motor from

A 2020 engine. A 276 or 4.5 liter engine out of a dozer or power unit would also work but would be more power, they are around 85 horsepower;where the 2020 engine is a direct replacement.

I don't know if this is ANY help at all, but a relative has an older JD self propelled windrower that has a small 4 cyl Deere gas engine in it. I remember the owner telling me years ago, that it had the same engine as a small(20-2510-??) , new generation JD tractor.

This might be another source for a donor engine.

I think but don't know for shure that the 180 engine out of a late V-belt seperator drive 45 combine is the same engine as the 2020 and again I think the 2510 might just be a row crop version of that tractor. I know the 145 & 165 combine engines will bolt into a 2010 tractor.

The engine in the 2510 tractor is a 4 cyl. 300 series engine made in dubuque Ia. The engine in the 3010 is a 400 series engine made in waterloo. The clutch housings betweent the two engines are different as well. Your best bet would be to get an engine out of a salvage yard that came out of a 2510 or 2520.

A JD 2510 is collectible. Just get the parts used that you need to fix the engine that came in it.

If you want a complete motor then here is what I found when researching this. "The John Deere model 2510 used a 2020 engine fitted to a modified 3020 chassis" this is directly from Tractor Data. I also am pretty sure this is correct.

The Waterloo built tractors, JD 3010 and JD 3020 have different bell housings and block mounting bolt spacing. So the best motor to switch would be a JD 2020 motor.

Is it a gasser 2020 engine? If you insist on butchering the tractor at least keep every little gasser part all together in a sturdy well labelled box.In a clean , dry place that everybody knows about.

Do not go to the bother of putting a 3020 or 3010 engine in a 2510. There are plenty of engines that will bolt into your 2510 with little extra work. You can use a 202,219, 239 or even a 276 these engines are very plentiful as they were used in the 2020,2030,2440,2510,2520 tractors as well as 3300 combines and lots of industrial equipment like backhoes and most air compressores. You will need to use the back plate off your engine to adapt it to the engine you find.We have a 219 out of an aircompressor in our 2510.Unless you tractor is a powershift you are not destroying a collectable tractor as there were more gas than diesel 2510's built. The engines listed above are even better than the 3010 and 3020 engines.
