When I painted my 230 Farmall a couple years ago, I replaced the gauges and switch thinking I was "upgrading". Last year the new switch failed so I put the old one back in. Now, the new ammeter failed so I put the 55 year old one back in - works perfect. Guess in the future I"ll just clean up the old ones or have them restored.

Glad I saved the old gauges. You would think there would be some improvement in 55 years but that"s sure not the case.

Seems like anything old and made by Stewart-Warner is the most desirable guages to use. Could be a case of old made in USA vs imported junk.

i have to agree that these new guages are kinda junk.i just installed a new temp guage from easy bob"s . it says made in tiawan and the needle jumps around on the guage.

If you have to change them again, next time use Murphy guages. I had a customer with several air compressor units that were constantly eating guages. I tried a bunch of the other name brands, including Steward Warner, and they all failed within a year or so. I finally went with the Murphy's because some of their guages have contact points built in that allowed me to consolidate the safety shutdown system on the machines and made them a little easier to exchange between the machines that they were mounted to. They made wiring everything easier, and have lasted going on 7 years now with no problems.

Another name brand that seem to be good are the Faria guages. If you look at alot of older equipment they used Faria back then and like you stated, the old guages just kept on working.

I've also had good luck
