Gas Tank Cleaning Kits....Which is the best?

In looking around I've noticed allot of talk about cleaning gas tanks and using different methods but I can't figure out which is best.

KBS
Eastwood
POR 15
Kreem
Summit Racing

I was wondering if anyone had experience with any of these and if so, would you recommend it?

Also, is there any place around the DFW area that sells one of these over the counter or do I have to order online?

I used the one from Eastwood on a tank on a John Deere A. It"s like a 5 or 6 step process. It does require you use muratic acid (I think that"s what it"s called. It"s used to clean concrete and can be had from any hardware store) so you need a work area that won"t be affected by acid. It took two of us 3 hours to do and it seems to be holding up real weel. I re-did the tank 5 years ago.

My buddy used that Red Kote and I wasn"t overly impressed with the results, but it works and is only a one step process. The Eastwood kit seemed to leave a thick coating to me.

Forgot to mention, but the size of my tank was larger than the size the Eastwood kit would handle so I had to order an extra bottle of the coating. There is enought of everything else in their kit to handle a larger tank.

If the tank is rusty inside,Go down to your local home center and get a couple gallons of muriatic acid.

If the crud inside the tank is just varnish from old fuel, just pour in some fresh gasoline, slosh it around, let it set, slosh it some more, and dump it out.

I used KBS. Took about a 1/2 day and I didn"t have buy anything else. Key is following the steps without taking shortcuts. Seems to hae done a good job.

I called around the radiator shops and got one to boil it out for $80. One was $200 for a complete job and the other was $240 for a complete job.

I've got more time than money at the moment and figured on getting after it myself.

I've been getting sediment in the bowls and although the tank doesn't look real bad, it is crusty looking on the bottom. I don't think it's going to take much to get it cleaned up.

Figured if I'm going to spend $50, I'd see what some of you guys did.

The POR-15 kit is the best that I have found. have used it on a few different rusty tanks and have never had a problem afterwards.

This is I used. 25 bucks. Cleaned the tank bright and shiny
with 50% muriatic acid. Let it dry very well. Dump the stuff in
and swirl it around. One can covered the bottom and about 6
inches up the sides of my 25 gal tank.

Thanks for the suggestions fellas.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on some POR-15.

Ordered the sealer and prep.

I'm going to start cleaning it with some acetone this weekend and seal it when my order comes in.

Thanks for the advice and suggestions!
