Nice to be remembered....

Awhile back, I had a delivery guy trying to deliver a package, talk to me , and get me to sign with a cigarette hanging outta his mouth...
I took the cig outta his mouth and threw it in the drain... Doorbell just rang a few minutes ago and, when I got to the gate, it was the same guy with a cigarette... He saw me and got this look then said "wait"... put down the package and went back/put the cigarette in his van.. Came back and had me sign for the package.....

I never feel bad for anyone who gripes about money or high prices if i know they smoke or chew.
 
I"m a strong advocate of personal property rights, therefore I think a property owner obviously has the right to NOT permit others to smoke or have any other open fires on his property. Not sure about the method of grabbing it out of another persons mouth as the most diplomatic method (could land you a punch in the face) lol but hey a person has the right to extinguish an open fire on their own property by any method dont they !!!!

Fire hazard aside, refusing to allow someone to smoke on your property is self defense. Second hand cigarette smoke has been proven to be as bad as smoking yourself.

Who can afford $9 a pack?!!
 
Or,,,,you could have done what one of our stewardesses did back in the days of my airline career (Capt Eddy Ricketyback at the controls). One of the passengers refused to put out his cigarette on prep for final approach. She calmly went forward and got a fire extinguisher and came back and pointed it in his face. He coudn't put out that cigarette fast enough! I'm pretty sure she would have discharged it on him if he hadn't for at least two reasons. 1. It only had water in it. 2. She was German and looked and sounded like it. Right out of a Gestapo training manual. I can still hear her announcements: " You vill remain SEATED vith your seat belts FASTENED!" You vil not SMOKE until the NO Smoking light iss turned OFF!" My Dear Junia Aherns. How I miss her. She reminded me of my Mother. A very good disciplinarian. (;>))
 
Dave not the smartest thing to PO the person delivering stuff to you. First I am not a fan of smoking either but if you tried that with me I would get even some how. It is out side the smoke is not an issue. You where just being an A$$hole.

Second If I was that delivery guy the next package I got with your name on it would have been kicked, drug and thrown around the whole time I had it. Even better I could just forget it in the truck for a few weeks. Tear the label off and throw it into the lost package bin. I would get even some way or another.

I bet you even like to PO the people cooking food for you to??? I would be afraid to eat with you. Rat crap and spit would be the additions to your stuff.

Give respect always (until you see it isn't deserved then use your best judgemant) and demand it always without accepting anything less.... You'll live a whole lot happier.....

Wife got after me on Sunday... she took me to breakfast and a couple 4/5 year old kids were running around bothering folks came by us and I slapped the table and told them it wasn't a playground.... They ran to m&d crying.... Dad came and askede what I did and I told him what he should have done to begin with... He mumbled sumpin and walked off but when we left,the 2 kids were setting at the table like little angels...... Had the guy called me an ahole... He'da been painfully embarrassed and the kids woulda still been sittin like angels.....

As far as packages, they belong to the sender until I sign for them....

Sometimes folks just need a jolt here and there.....
 
And he's gonna wonder where his new chainsaw is in
about a week. and the delivery guys gonna be
smiling!!!
 
no indian reservations nearby lyle ?
couple of them here & smoke shacks sell them for as little as $1.00 a pack LOL average $2.50 a pack , $25.00 a carton

All right Dave, as much ragging as you've gotten so far about this it amazes me that no one has accused you of littering yet for throwing the butt into the drain....LOL

and done that to my kids you would be the one
painfully embarrassed. I agree kids should be made
to mind and show respect the same for smokers
showing respect, however you are not the one to show
them. Good luck with your packages your going to
need it, and I would be careful where you eat when
word gets out about the things you do well lets just
say your food will all the extra fixings.
 
They guy shows no respect for you or his company by coming up smoking. I'm a smoker but try to respect those around me and don't just light up whenever and wherever. I think you handled it as professionaly as he deserved.

Had a neighbor that moved to NC from up north. He thought he was above all of us, knew more about computers, construction, farming, motorcycles, trucks, cars almost any topic that came up. You couldn't talk to him, he aways came back with some know it all answer. If you pressed him he was thin skinned and would try to insult you. He was about 5 ft tall, bald,with big glasses. He was really about harmless but thought he could whip anyones butt. I used to wonder why he hated himself so much, maybe rejection by his family while growing up.

Well Dave I would comment that if you stuck yer paw in my face right off the bat you might not be happy with the outcome.

Askng someone to put the butt out is one thing but violating ones airspace can lead to inintended outcomes.

Yep, we all know about and have seen those types of people, maybe in our family maybe not, they're everywhere lol. The "know it alls" the ones who are always right who have to always have the last word who have the best cars and houses and everyone else is just stupid and has the wrong cars or tractors or homes blah blah blah. I have to feel sorry for them, they must have a misearable life. Oh well life goes on and Im happy with God and family.....much easier that way far less stress too

So Dave, if I have this all nailed down correctly you show respect so long as you feel that it is due, and in the situations that you deem it is deserved?

I've read your posts and rants for quite a time. It appears that you have difficulty with casual relationships, or just relationships for that matter. Have you ever pondered that perhaps the issue is not with "everyone else"?

The best advice I can offer is to at least ponder every now and again that most people are not as dumb as you might think.

People who assure themselves that they are the smartest ones are usually among the least informed because of their pre-existing "supreme knowledge" of all subject matter but yet are the first to speak and act.

Maybe you are not a Godly man but Saul/Paul (Biblical character)had a heart similar to yours. He was zealous and headstrong, assuring himself that he was an absolute authority, all the while he couldnt have been more wrong. Story of Paul's conversion can be found in the book of Acts. (Acts of the apostles).

Why be such a crotchety human being? What will it profit you? It surely doesnt profit anyone else.

Just food for thought... Perhaps the delivery man didnt put the cig away out of respect but more knowing that if you jerked the cig out of his mouth again that he would return to his truck to get his sawed off scatter gun to invert your face. He maybe just wanted to save himself the questions from the authorities and some time behind bars.

Always remember that there will always be tougher crazier people out there than you can imagine so there is no need to go on trying to prove your status. You'll never make it to the top but you'll make a pile of enemies in the process.

I guess I'd rather check out of this earth and have folks remember me as the guy who helped whoever needed it, not the craky guy down the road who helped all the people who were willing to be submissive to his self given authority.

Don't be surprised when one day somebody resents it,and you may feel it.
Suppose you could ask him to not smoke in your presence, which I think would be the civilised approach.
 
just curious as to how much profit besides all the taxes is made off a pound of tobacco once it leaves the farm,grew it 30 years ago and sold it for as much $2.00 per pound, bought cigarettes for $4.50 carton, now tobacco isn't selling near as high off the farm and cigarettes are $50.00 a carton and up

I ain't so bad.... just have a low tolerance for BS... dam sure ain't better than anyone else, but noone is better than me either... If someone thinks that they are above asking to come on my property, showing me the respect of not blowing smoke in my face, or keeping thier kids from invading my privacy and quiet time.... Then I'll point out the mistake quick, fast, and in a hurry...
I wasn't raised to back pedal or hide behind a bush......

Well said Wilamayb. I used to be some what like Dave2 and 1047pm's neighbor. But some years ago I suppose I had an awakening. Since then I feel a lot better about trying to be a better person myself instead of always trying to point out to others how they could be better people. I don't worry about impressing men so much and keep trying to impress God even though it is much tougher. But then, he keeps forgiving me.
 
I was pretty much like a wild bucking bronco until the Lord broke me, put a bridle and saddle on me for his use. I am still high spirtied and if I wasn't I wouldn't be of any use.

You boys keep on a thumpin and preachin... maybe you'll out Jesus one another before the day is over.....I never had the urge to read more than phrase or two in the bible and won't attend a church service but I think I'll be happy with where I'll end up... I'll prolly slip thru the gates quickern' some of you... I'll vouch for ya tho and tell ole pete that you just got brainwashed somewhere along the way......
If one of you can tell me where Jesus and not some skypilot says that I should let folks walk over me, I'll look into it and have a talk with him to see if he really means it....

I know you boys mean well and you're just tryin to save me from myself and maybe hopin I'll find jesus and heal my heathen ways,,, but I ain't lost him and I walk upright and look him and other folks straight in the eye I say or do sumpin....
