I'm adjusting the valve tappets.

I'm using the book to open some valves inorder to adjust the closed valves.

Using this feeler gauge, is it adjusted to just snug?

Assuming there is no cupping to the rocker tip that would bridge the feeler, yes. a light pulling force, about like pulling scotch tape off the roll, is good. Jim

Hello Dave 641,
If you can get to the push rod, when the lash is correct you will have a little drag on it.
Onother way is to use the .014 and .016 feeler gauges for your .015 setting.
When the lash is correct, .014 will go right through and .016 won't go in.There are feeler gauges like that, i have a couple of them. They are called go and no go feeler gauges.
I don't like adjusting the valves when the engine is running, once you put the feeler gauge in, the clearance is zero while the engine is running.? You feeler gauges won't look pretty after that either! You certainly won't be using it to set ignition points!
Guido.

I sort of did that, after I went through the first adjustments I went back and tried the .016 gauge an adjusted if it went through.

I was about to put the manifolds on when I grabbed the spark plugs to put in.

One dang plug wouldn't thread!

Does this look half arse to y'all?

Copper thread is stocking out. I'm getting frustrated now. Putting down the tools.

That looks like a repaired spark plug thread. My guess is that the original was stripped and the owner had it drilled and an insert threaded in. It is not correct. the insert is a great idea, but the insert must be screwed flush with the cast iron to seal the plug and present the plug electrodes to the mix correctly. Jim
