E.J. Potter

I googled EJ Potter the other day and there's several things to look at incl. his last run before putting the Chevy powered cycle in a museum. I can't imagine having the wheel spinning over 200 m.p.h. and dropping it onto pavement. How did he ever keep it going straight?

It weaved a lot. He tried a flat surfaced tire one time and almost killed himself. He needed a rounder face to let it wander while the wheel was spinning.
There were actually 7 "Bloody Mary" cycles. He build a new one every winter. That started when he was tinkering with the first one and found out the fork was broken all the way through on one side and half way through on the other. He didn't take any more chances after that. If you can ever get ahold of his book Michigan Madman, either volume 1 or 2,great and hilarious reading. The guy had an electric car back in the 60s that would do 120 in the quarter mile.

he rented milan dragway one time to test the electic car and the rains came and shorted out the old KVA generator. had the time of my life when i was yonger and triped the bike of the stand on the stating line at milan when i worked there.

Any idea where to find the books? I watched him pull his Allison powered tractors years ago at our Branch County fair. I had no idea he had passed. I used to pull the super stocks and modifieds around the track with my JD D, was fun evening. Nolan Hall and Jerry Van Dorpe used to pull here too.
