john deere 60

I HAVE A JOHN DEERE 60 THAT'S BEEN SITTING IN THE BARN FOR 6 YEARS NOW DO THE FACT I BOUGHT A NEWER DIESEL TRACTOR. THE DEERE HAS THE NARROW ROLL A MATIC FRONT END. I WAS WONDERING HOW HARD IT IS TO PUT A WIDE FRONT END UNDER THIS TRACTOR OR WOULD A GUY BE A HEAD TO JUST SALE THE TRACTOR AND BUY ONE WITH A WIDE FRONT END. IS THIS TRACTOR WORTH ANYTHING TO THE GUYS THAT RESTORE TRACTORS? IF I SALE THE TRACTOR.

Switching front ends is a lot of grunt work, but not very complicated. You could probably find a Schwartz or other after-market front end for low cost. A John Deere front end might cost more than the tractor is worth.

THANKS

I DONE LITTLE LOOKING AT THE SCHWARTS FRONT ENDS BUT HAVE NOT FOUND A COST. THERE IS A DEERE FRONT END ON EBAY FOR $3500. THAT'S NOT GOING TO WORK.

If you have the 2 piece pedestal, yes its an easy swap. You could probably find a Swarts or similar for $500 to $1000.Someone will want that tractor(duh, its a "two banger")Some people actually prefer a narrower front end over the wide.

If you're thinking of replacing JD 60 tractor with another similar JD two cylinder tractor with a wide front end it would be simpler to change the front end. I say this because you know what you have with your 60 rather than buying a different tractor with a new set of problems to be repaired.

If you would replace your JD 60 with a different type of tractor then sell the 60 and buy the tractor you'd like to have.

Try to drive a two cylinder JD tractor with a wide front end before you spend a lot of money on a WF end. Older WF tractors may not turn very sharply so they are not as handy as a NF tractor or a newer WF tractor.

Good luck.

If you dont have a loader on it a schwartz will work fine. It will turn a little shorter than a deere wide front. Jim

THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I'VE EVER POSTED ON THIS SITE I'VE READ LOTS OF THE POST AND HAVE GAINED ALLOT OF INFORMATION. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND HELP.

NO LOADER BUT THAT WAS MY THINKING FOR THE WIDE FRONT.

YOU ARE CORRECT I DO KNOW THE TRACTOR WELL I'VE HAD MOST OF IT IN MY HANDS AT ONE TIME. THE NF WORKED GOOD TO RAKE HAY UNTIL GAS GOT $4 A GALLON.

I'M NOT SURE ON THE TWO PIECE PEDESTAL I WILL START THERE. I MAY ASK AROUND TO SEE IF SOMEONE WOULD BE INTERESTED IN THE TRACTOR. HERE IN SOUTHEAST KANSAS THE OLD TRACTORS ARE POPULAR. WE HAVE "WILSON COUNTY OLD IRON DAYS" AND THE TRACTORS I SEE AT THIS SHOW SEEM TO BE OLDER THAN MY 60. I ALSO HAVE MADE SOME MODIFICATIONS TO THE TRACTOR. I PUT A LATER MODEL 12 VOLT ALTERNATOR ON IT AND YOU HAVE TO HAVE A KEY TO START IN NOW, AND DIFFERENT LIGHTS. THE TRACTOR HAS ALSO BEEN PAINTED WITH NEW DECALS, TIRES AND SEAT. MOST OF THE TRACTOR GUYS SEEM TO WANT ONE THAT THEY RESTORE THERE SELF.
