Won't start!! I will be getting an AWARD

Guy calls in and says that he put his New Kubota RTV in the garage and took off the snow plow. Now it won't start. He was talking to the store manager. I was gone. Manager goes to guys house, tries a little either, no go. Manager hauls in to our shop. I did not realize that this is the one I put a hydraulic blade on last fall. So I did a compression test, ran valves, tested injectors and tried alternate fuel supply. Wish now that the Manager had been a smart a$$ and told him to put the blade back on! Seems HYDRAULIC oil needs a way to get back to the tank. If he had of put plow back on it would have started. Don't let this happen to you!!

Thanks for sharing. Do I understand correctly that removing the plow capped off a hydraulic line, "deadheaded" the hydraulic pump, leaving no return path for hyd oil to the oil tank ?

That reminds me of the "problem" that stopped my uncle dead many years ago. His main farm tractor at the time was a Moline Model U with front end loader. The tractor did several jobs in season where the front end loader needed to be removed.

One time after removing the loader, he screwed the loader mounting bolts back into the mount pads on the tractor, and tried to start it to back away from the loader.

The old Moline engine was locked up solid, could not budge it. Uncle had no idea what was wrong, so they used another tractor to tow the old Moline, 6 miles to the repair shop in town.

The next day, uncle drove to town to find the mechanic hard at work on the tractor, trying to solve the seized engine mystery.
The fellow had the oil pan off and was inspecting the bearings for a problem.

When asked what led up to the engine seizing, uncle replied that it ran fine when driven to the spot, but was seized after removing the loader.
The old mechanic crawled out from under the engine and immediatly eyed the loader mounting pads on the frame in the area of the engine flywheel.
Sure enough, uncle has screwed a too long loader mounting bolt through the frame and into the side of the engine flywheel.
The mechanic moved that bolt to the correct hole and the engine turned over good as ever ;-).

What kind of DUMB manager puts ether to a new Kubota? From talking to mechanics who work on Kubota's, they should never get ether because they have very close tolerances. You would think a manager at a Kubota dealer would read all the warnings.

Had a customer in for some coach related issues on his class "B" motorhome, the shop I worked for didn't do mechanical, just coach work. The guy mentions his generator doesn't run I look at it for him as a courtesy because we don't do mechanical work. He explains he changed the solenoid on it and and it hasn't started since then, even put another new solenoid in it. I checked the solenoid, it was wired correctly and the tester showed everything to be good. Customer said he had to unhook the generator now or it would drain the battery. Like I said we didn't do that kind of work, weren't licensed to do so so we couldn't bill him and our liability insurance wouldn't cover him so I refer him to a friend that can do the work. Seems when the customer changed the solenoid he lost the screws and used some he had, they were to long and the tail of one of them went into the generator control board and was shorting stuff out.

What does a dead headed hydraulic pump have to do with a cranks but no start problem?
Oil level safety on the hyd resivour?

Something strang here. I have been a KUBOTA dealer for 28 years. Granted down south we don,t sell a lot of snow blades. The operator manual does say reconnect the two line one male one femal when removing the blade.. BUT that in it,s self should not have caused the unit not to start.. something like a safety switch got moved in the process of putting the blade back on and the LAST thing you want to do is either a new kubota engine..

Yup I was against using either as well. But I was not there. Just wish I had been the one that went out to pick up the RTV. It would have brought to my attention that the hoses needed to be hooked back up.

I agree on simply connecting the supply and return lines together on an open-center hyd system where a control valve is bypassed.
