white 2-85 gauges

I recently bought a 1978 White 2-85 and am having problems with panel gauges. fuel goes to 1/2 when off and empty when on. (tank is about 1/4 full). temp. goes to 180 when off (tractor is cold) and 140 when on. I've replaced temp. gauge and sending unit and still not right. Could it be a faulty key switch?

My experince with that model is most of the gauges go to the middle or strait up when the switch is off.The send unit in the fuel tank are often bad or a sunk float.I have allso had problems with the tilt steering rubbing the wires and causeing all kinds of strange things.

Ground was my first thought also, so I ran a seperate ground wire to each gauge, with no change.
