as you may know Im putting this old combine engine to run my sawmill. The hyd pump on the combine was used for power steering also, I dont need power steering for the mill. lol The line coming from the side of the pump could it just be plugged off?? And the 2 90s on the hyd tank can they also just be plugged off as well. Im sure the lines at the back of the pump is your suction and your pressure. Im just running three hyd circuits for the mill. I have a 3 spool valve already that come off a different machine. Any help would be great!
Thanx....Lyle

Where is the pump for the three hydraulic circuits used on the mill? Where is it's oil reseviour?
Why not just remove the PS drive belt?
If you plug the outlet there wil be no relief for this positive displacement pump. Depending on the amount of oil inside and rpms, the belt will slip or the pump will break when pressure or friction seizes the pump.

The power steering is run off this pump, The oil tank is in the pic. The three circuits....One runs the sawdust chain via hyd motor, one runs the conveyor belt via hyd motor and one will be on a hyd ram. What is the line coming from the side of the pump for???

Sorry but I understand even less now. Where is the pump that runs the three hydraulic loads? What resevoir is being used ?

IIRC the pump in the photo operates both the 3 spool valve & the power steering. lyle niemi is wanting to by-pass the power steering ports on combine hyd system. I think all he needs to do is tie the two power steering lines together.

I think just tying the power steering control valve supply/return lines together will work on an open-center system. Just plugging the ports you don't need won't work as that could cause pump failure.

Is there one gear pump and a flow divider to provide reliable PS ? Or a double pump with a dedicated PS section? Maybe possible to use that otherwise wasted recirc flow ?

I think everyone including Me knows the pump need two belts to pump oil [/quote] got things moving Tx Jim,PS why didnt ya tell me the pump was on backwards...lol

I don't remember you asking which way the pump needed to rotate to pump oil!!!! I probably would have remembered anyway(oldtimers disease)!!!!!!! Seriously glad you figured it out. :D

I agree with Buickanddeere,The bottom post..if the pump is'nt being used, just remove the belt,
But..cap the hoses, or ports, to keep it clean.
