John Deere 400 Backhoe hydraulic issue

Hi, I have a 1960"s John Deere 400 backhoe loader. Moves in forward and reverse but can not get the hoe or the bucket to move. If I work it long enough the hoe will move very slow and I will hear a chatter sound. It has oil and I have tried bleeding any trapped air from lines. No luck. Is there any way to check if the pump is bad, or is there any pressure valves on the pump to check. Also heard about a stroke valve? An ideas where these are on the pump. Also looking for manuals online for free, anyone know of a site? Thanks

Could be the destroker yes. I think that one's electric vs the manual one on the ag tractors. Should be right on top of the pump right ahead of the radiator. Left side as you're sitting on the seat if memory serves me right, but wouldn't swear to it.

Not that familiar with the electric ones on the industrials. I know the manual ones are just a screw that you turn in and it pushes a valve open so the oil bypasses. The pumps should be the same on both,so that electric one should just do it automatically. As far as I know, they open when you're starting them so the motor turns over easier,so it should be closing after the engine starts.

You also dhould check the suction screen in the bottom of the transmission to see if it is plugging up, its a large plug just ahead and below the rear axle right to the bottom of the trans case. have a large tub under there when you pull it as all your tranmission fluid will run out once you pull the plug. the screen will either pop out with the fluid or you will need to reach in and grab it with your fingers.

I dont know about the deeres but if it has an external pump and tank, the suction line could have collapsed inside. Had this happen to a Kubota and it acted just like that.

How long since hyd filters ere changed and suction screen(parts key #37) in sump cleaned. Could be a partly stripped hyd drive coupler(parts key #1) in the frt of engine.
