Broken drawbar!

Here's a couple of pics of a broken drawbar on my G706 Minnie. Just bought this one a few weeks ago. Probably not uncommon, but here's the strange part: I did it by hand! I decided to use this drawbar on my other G706, so I took off the front anchor pin, and started to wiggle it out from the support, and it just came apart. It's about 3" by 1 1/2". This tractor had been sitting for about 10 years, but I'm sure something was hooked to it the last time it was used. The break is bright steel, no rust. Can't say I've ever seen anything like it. Sure glad I didn't tie it down on the trailer by the drawbar! The second pic is the 1-foot piece that broke off. Any ideas what caused it?

Get a used draw bar.Whoever welded on that drawbar is a fool.It takes a while but we learn there are things that should not be welded.

Don't think I've ever seen a steel weld come out looking porus like cast. Swiss cheese but not that. That could have got real scary fast had it not broke in your hand.

Crystalized???? What looks like crystal is the final fracture area. What looks like sand on a beach, (called beach marks) is the area of fatigue. Looks like bending fatigue at the cross section change due to the plates scabbed on the top and bottom.

It's called metal fatigue mostly from vibration or continues bending. Not too uncommon.

PS scrap the thing.

If ya just got it a few weeks ago, ya might want to take it back and complain about the warranty---
