engine froze

the engine on my farmall h is stuck. I have put BP in each cylinder 3 weeks ago and it is still stuck. Can I safely pull the tractor with it in gear to break it loose?

Not knowing if the valves are free, or what is causing the sticking, ye you can damage a lot of parts you don't want to have to replace. Disassembly is the safe way, especially with an engine with sleeves. Even if a piston is hopelessly rusted to a cylinder, the sleeve/piston can be removed and separated or replaced easily. Trying to force it can bend rods, break rocker arms, bend pushrods, just doa lot of bad stuff. You'll probably have to hone cylinders and free up rings to get it running without burning oil anyway.

No, it is not a good idea to pull it. You could jack up one wheel and rock it back and forth in 5th gear, or put a hand crank on the engine with the handle up and hang a weight on it, or you could make a short ramp for each wheel and push it to the top and put it in 5th, or you could do like old suggests and take out the plugs, put in ATF, and bump the starter now and then. Pulling it in gear is likely to bend a rod or cause some other problem which you will then have to deal with.

Sorry but the cheapest and quickest fix is to tear the engine down. Clean each little bit and inspect. Replace or re-machine what is wrecked.
Really, it will cost less than forcing a stuck engine.

no do not.
You can put the transmission in 5th gear, and the rear wheels up on blocks so that they are supported and trying to roll forward off the blocks, this puts appropriate strain on the engine. The crank (hand crank) can also be used to apply pressure in the correct direction. Hang 200 pounds of weight on the handle.
While these are working in your favor, bumping on the starter (with a good battery) can also break it free. If it still does not break free in a week or so, Pulling the head is next. Jim

PB is the wrong stuff to fill the cylinder with. Been doing stuck engines for decades and use one thing and that is ATF and have had more free up then not as in more the 20 out of 25 or so

Quit trying the wsnake oil and pull the head then and then only will you know the condition why it is stuck. Ive also got some free but i did lookinto the spark plug hole on all four cycls to see the condition of the walls and if they are rusty quit messing around and pull the head and go from there.

If the PB hasn't helped nothing will. Don't bother with the ATF, it doesn't work. Pull the head off and see what's wrong..

If your H has alumium pistons in it nothing will help.If you can unstick motors with anything there not stuck in the first place,Take that head off and work on one piston at a time.Ive had better results with PB blaster than any thing.Heat works good also.Ive got a friend that circulates hot water through stuck motors and has worked well

If it hasn't freed up in 3 weeks, pull the head.

Roll the tractor outside, dump a cup of diesel fuel in each cylinder, and light them off one at a time. The diesel will not "explode" it will burn gently, and heat the cylinder liner up. This will often break the engine loose.

Remove valve cover and rocker arms, add airpressure #1 and #4 cylinders and rock. When it moves repeat on 2 and 3. It worked on a ih 330.
