O.K. Have 50 ft 3/4 plastic with a riser from lp tank to house generator.. First NO inspection, permits or local regs.. but would like for it to be right.. At the generator end in this order from the underground line.. First a brass shut off, then a water trap, low preasure regulator, and last a short vibration line. Any one have any argument with this or should the cutoff be last near the generator? Will try and attach photo.

Most of the time I have the regulator and then the sedament trap, mostly because the vent on the regulator needs to be pointed down or covered. Also the regulator vent is suposed to be 18" above ground. To be up to code the regulator vent is supose to be 5' from any source of ignition [this includes the generator]. The vent is suposed to be so far from windows and other openings I just can't remember how far right now. The vent can be piped away if needed.

What generator do you have. The way I installed the system. Fuel strainer trap. Shut off valve,I use an electrical solenoid. To me it is better than a manual valve. It shuts off the fuel when engine is shut off. Then the regulator. Vent should be pipped away from the unit and covered to keep the bugs out. By covered I mean a screen over it. It should be up where the wind can carry off any gas. Then a flex line from the regulator to the engine.

I would like to see a physical barrier at the point where the plastic comes into the building protecting the shutoff valve from physical breakage. FIlling a building with gas from a broken off pipe will send bits into orbit. as important is the security of the exhaust path out of the building. Jim

Generator does not need to be in the house. It should be outside in a shed. Or have a generator housing over it. Should be where the wind can carry off any fumes at least 5-10 ft from the house. Not around any windows or doors.

O K First the generator is outside....Not that dumb.. New 20 kw genrac . Do plan on getting the regulator the 18 inches from the ground. Yes it is special purpose gas Plastic with fittings on the end called riser that are like gold.. Lastly it (the generator) is located4 ft from the house on a wall that is solid. No doors or windows within 25 ft. Now think I have relieved most of your concerns and thanks for all the comments. Am going to try and attach the photo one more time. For some reason can,t get it done.

That is strange, as I said no real code but was told by the LP gas supplier about the i8 inch high thing but they als wanted the regulator and cut off within 2 ft of the appliance (generator). The generator does have an electric fuel shut off internaly the mechanical one they want outside is for safety and I was thinking if it were BEFORE the water trap would allow servicing the trap just by turning the valve to off

I have the same generator setup as you do. The generator ran 5 times last summer, then has not been needed since then. It is like insurance, will not need it if you have it.

David Just like a 4 thousand dollar insurance you are right..Winter before last we had bad ice and were out for three periods of over 3 days. This last mild winter no outages but figure got to spend it somewhere. Generator is just the start all this hook up is going to add to the cost but still think it will be worth it. Have several friends that have this exact unit and are satisfied, so we will see. My only reget is would have been easier if instaled three years ago when we built the house.

It does bring peace of mind. I did not worry near as much when this batch of bad weather rolled through. I knew we would have power as long as house was standing.

The 18" code is to keep water[ice] or mud from splashing up and covering the vent. I like to have a shut off before the regulator and trap; it makes it easier to locate a leak. Be sure to have the system leak tested I had one generator have a leak inside a new unit. I also like to blow the lines out before I install the second stage regulator.

Good luck, Frank
