Trees all in.

I know most on here are row croppers. But I finished all my trees last Tuesday night (4/10) here in Mid-Michigan. Picked them up good Friday and started at it. Trees don't care about frost, they are frozen when I pick them up anyway. We just got a nice soaking rain last night and this morning too. Perfect. Probably not for you guys trying to get in your fields, but my trees needed a drink.

Thats the easy part. Now out comes the tree spade and the back breaking work of ball-burlap.

Next year I'll try to video the planter. Not that easy, once we're set up to go all hands are busy. I would need someone else to be running the video.

That"s backbreaking work. What variety of trees?
I"ve tried a number of years with various pines from the conservation district with very disappointing results. But those were little guys, and probably dired out way too much before I got them. I gave up.

I really didn't mind the rain. I was starting to think it had forgotten how. It was supposed to rain last Sunday and didn't. Then Friday night and it didn't. I'd been hauling manure for the last 3 days on some ground that 9 years out of 10,I can't get on til late May. I pulled a big rock out of the ground Friday, that had been menacing me for 30 years and it seemed kinda dry in the hole.

I have planted right at 6,000. Two high school kids ride on the planter and I drive. Last ones planted were in 2002. They are from 15' to 20' tall now.

Ray,
I typically plant Blue and Norway spruce and Maples. Those are what most people want. Spruce to block out neighbors and varieties of maples for fall color.

I like to plant 2000 a year. I am going to try to organize all my pictures and post tem sometime. The largest planter will cut roughly a 12in wide by 30in deep trough. Looks very similar to a V-ditcher. I can easily plant 8 foot whips with this planter.

I have spent 6 years trying to get some trees to grow with mixed results.
Last February we had about 10 " rain , the non perennial creek and some of my paddocks flodded three times.
NOW I have about 1000 eucalypt river red gums growing along the creek flats , some 8 feet tall and all within 12 months,
Where was Mother Nature when I needed her.? Certainly made me look like a cretin.
