cub tool box China Junk

When will I learn from previous mistakes..I am conservative, even cheap, with my money and seem to fall prey to the low priced china junk.Having said that, I like perfection and the two just don't go together..I bought a repro, china made, $39 dollar battery box for my cub..The box is not tall enough for my battery but my main concern is the metal is soo thin the rear tail light, which is mounted to this thin metal, vibrates excessively..Even my 9 yr old grand son mentioned it when we were only pushing it out of the garage! When I move the light and let it go it just keeps on going back and forth..Before I spring for an expensive OEM box I want to be sure I am getting one with exact dimensions and correct thickness metal considering the price...Surely someone has recently purchased one that fits those minor demands...After cost and shipping on this peice of junk and the cost added of the replacement I will buy, I will have spent all my fishing money just for a metal box. DO NOT buy China JUNK and expect good results..Advice on a "Solid" OEM box would be appreciated....Thanks Buy USA

Why not get steel of the proper size and thickness and make it yourself or have your local welder/blacksmith make it for you? Best way to get it right and know it is MADE IN AMERICA!!! Also keeps your money local! Armand

I got several stainless steel butt panels from a local dairy when they remodeled- about 2 feet by 3 feet, with 1 inch flange all around. "I just know I can use them for something". Among other things, I made a pair of battery boxes for my 1550 Oliver out of them- good project, they look nice, and will be the last set it will ever need.

You can cut sheet metal very handily with a Sawzall, if you lay it out right and clamp on a piece of wood for a guide. Local sheet metal guys can make the bends for you, at nominal cost. I just made up a bracket that needed 2 bends, cost me 3 bucks.

6V I assume !?! I had trouble with the box on my "C". It seems the new batteries are just a little taller than what the box can accommodate with the cover closed.

And yes, the originals were made better.

The ridge inside the box around the edge can stop a battery from setting all the way to the bottom try and shake the batt some and it will probably go down some even the original boxes will do the same thing.

You guys are just too funny! I made custom exhaust and sheet metal parts for years for tractors all out of new stainless steel. Never had a complaint about fit, finish or durability.
The word I got from most people was "I can buy the same thing from here or there for less". My response? Go for it! My current response? 'Sorry I've mothballed the shop', but I'm sure you can find a cheap (err..cost effective) part made in the land of almost right that may or may not fit or work for a few bucks cheaper. Good luck with that!

I'm really impressed s.crum. You obviously are a craftsman of the highest order..My question was which distributor sells the most original OEM battery box. I don't want it custom made in stainless steel. I withdraw my comments and question reguarding this matter..Thanks
