Will Ruger ever stock the gun shops with the new SR1911? I've been wait'n for over a year and you still can't buy one, They're still on back order.

Ruger is about 3 months behind on everything they make right now due to the 2nd round of panic setting in with the up coming election.

Don't be in too much of a rush. Reports I'm hearing from folks that have gotten their hands on one is that QC is spotty, triggers tend to be gritty and heavy, and accuracy is so-so out of the box.

All symptoms of rushing production to meet demand IMHO.

According to some people Ruger has quit taking orders on the 1911 and have a back order of over 2 million pistols. We e-mailed the company and got the standard response of " it has been so overrought with orders they added a second set of machinery to try and get caught up". We were looking for a Ruger for over 6 months, and every Local gun Shop said the same thing, "haven't seen one in over 6 months to a year" or " I have only seen one,or fired one when the rep brought one out from the factory" We also heard that some time ago Ruger had a buyers sale on them, If a gun shop purchased a quantity of other guns to sell, Ruger would send them one SR1911, so the gun shops bought into it,ordered quite a few quantity of other guns to get the remaining 1911's. I say they are making the cheaper (poly) guns due to the conceal carry so they are getting a faster return on their money, without having to spend at least 6 hrs per pistol to refine it to fire with Stainless Steel. We were searching for a Stainless steel 1911 for over 5 months and everything local was either backordered,or out of stock, just lucked on Springfield Armory 1911 loaded 45 ACP.
Also, watch out for some people, knowing it is a hard pistol to find, they really increase their price to astronomical portions to make up for "I've got one,but good luck finding one at the list price" types, if you want it you'll pay this amount or find something else.

They are out there. My local shop has one, but it is not in his display case and he is not advertising it locally. I looked at it yesterday, and liked the looks and feel. For one thing, they didn't feel the need to write the standard Ruger warning about reading the owners manual all over the side of the gun. It is there, but on the bottom. It's a two-tone deal, which I normally wouldn't like but it looked good, and I will buy one when supply catches up w/ demand.

The local guy will sell his on gunbroker for a couple hundred more than he would sell it to me for, and I have no problem with that at all. I didn't ask how many he gets in, but he told me a similar story a couple of months ago, although at that point he did not have one in stock, as he had sold it prior to me asking. So, he does get them and move them through but I don't know how often.

I got a call from my grandson in Midland Tx. and he said the gunshop where he hangs out sold one yesterday, he said there was one more guy ahead of him that would get the next one, but then he'd get the one after that and he'd bring it to me. No telling how long that will take though.

Rick.Don't know where your getting the informaton from , but Rugers response to us was the exact response I posted above. Nothing mentioned about election and or panic buying their product. I would suspect the ccw gathered speed with the public buying up weapons for carry.AS you know from my past post, my interest is in investment, and not ccw.I have enough of a selection for that. I really liked Victors 1911 Long slide SA.I bought a 1911 A1 SA 45 acp to ballance our carry weapons, while out and about. I'm only interested in Stainless Steel, no polimar 1/2 steel quick production model any thing. Polamar warps and twists when a certain cleaning solution is used on the weapon. Plain Black steel is O.K. if one wants to have em re-blued after a time due to rust taking over the finish. Now the gun dealers will have a multatude of STORIES they will pass on to prospective customers, but their friends will come as first served. Hope he can find one though. LOU.

I got five of them a year ago. I had ordered them three years ago before they even went into production. I wanted them to give to my kids. I did have a local gun smith work them over to match quality. The quality on delivery was not great. The trigger pull was vastly different between the five guns. The slide action was terrible on two of them. They would jam once every time in shooting a ten round clip.

The kids where thrilled with them. They could brag them up. The pistols do look good.

Would I buy another Ruger after these??? A big maybe. I have a lot of older Ruger firearms and they are good quality. The newer stuff has been cheapened up too much.

I have a pair of 1911 Colt 45ACP pistols that my Dad bought for me while I was in Vietnam. They cost $750 dollars in 1968. They where match grade pistols. I was told they where hand built from the best matching set of parts. Several gun smith/dealer friends have told me they have heard of Colt making these pistol but had never seen a set because of the high selling cost. I guess very few where ever sold.

They are the smoothest semi-automatic pistols I have ever shot. I have carried them ever since then. The one is just a little more accurate than the other. That one has had over 17,000 round fired through it. I keep a diary of every round that has been fired through them.

How many do you want? Go to Guntrader.com there are about 15-20 of them in the $790-800 range, plus shipping and FFL.

I knew an old doctor in the Army who had a set of match grade 1911A1s. They were in a red velvet lined case. When we were out firing our 45s on the range he used to drive up in his big Cadillac with a huge smile on his face, open up the trunk and take out those pistols and pass them around so we could all fire them. What a difference from those old shake, rattle and roll issue 45s. I can still see him to this day, driving right up behind the firing line like a little kid at Christmas time.

I know everyone wants a 1911 frame, but I just bought a Ruger P345 a couple of weeks ago and love to shoot it. I like it more than my 64' Colt 1911, though they really are two generations of pistols.

Ruger is so far behind in production they are not taking any more orders until at least the end of next month. Smith & Wesson are in the same boat, but won't admit it. I work at a small gun shop in northern Wisconsin, we talk to our distributors every day. All the manufacturers were planning on ramping up production later in the summer, but the run on everything caught them by suprise. We just got an order in from our ammo and reloading dealer, only got 40% of what we ordered. If you need something, I would get it now while you can.

Lou, it's been in the news. Not as bad as when external_link was first elected but still people are worried about some type on gun ban being imposed again. I don't remember the name but one politician went so far as to state after the Hiller vs DC case "well we can just outlaw ammo". My local gun shop owner tells me his sales are way up.
