power add on?? steering

Hey folks,
tractor is gonna have me lookin like baby atlas since I have the FEL on it. There is a power steering kit available for it for right at $800 (includes new hydraulic pump and all bolts, parts, hoses, and brackets for a direct bolt up to this model)......
Has anyone ever added PS and did the result justify the money spent? I have to fool around in tight places where a lot of steering is involved: I could sure use the money somewhere else, but ain't getting any younger (so steering ain't gettin easier)....

Input please......

You said in an earlier post that you had a problem with lead.
Maybe with all that pulling on your wheel it will help you get rid of some of it.......

I built my own for about that price for my 202 Massey and it was worth every penny spent. With a front end loader it's pretty much a necessity. I was breaking steering parts (ball screw assy.) regularly without it. It's much better for everything I do with it now.

they are power ASSIST, not power steering. but yes.. much better that without.. especially with a loader. It will still take some effort to turn, but much less than before.. and if you turn fast, you out run the power assist.

We have behlen power steering on 2 old loader
tractors and the will steer as fast as you can turn
the wheel . very easy..

I wouldn't buy a tractor with a FEL without power steering or put
one on.

My dad put a Behlen unit on what is now my JD 48 A. It doesn"t have a FEL, but you can steer that tractor with your little finger.

I had a 300 Utility that was great, without a loader. I put a loader on it, and it was tough to do anything with it. As far as the $800 kit goes, I'd go for it. The parts to create one yourself will run that much, and require quite a bit of fab work to get it to fit. The kit will already be operational.

Counting pennies now  ... Ebay ad says 4-6 weeks delivery time after paid. Asked about it and they said the kits were custom made and they needed serial# of tractor and brand & serial number of the loader so that all headscratching and and the correct adapters/brackets can be put together for a basic handtool installation.... Say it will come with all mounting instructions and also a video of the mounting..... Was just getting ready to buy another poop container but I'll get a lot more use out of PS that a 4th container.......
