About a year ago I found an ad on craigslist for a Case C.
Agreed to trade him a garden tractor for it. He said no hurry
I'll keep it for you. Was going to scrap it if no one wanted it.
Called him a couple months later and he said no worries it's
here when you have time. Just called him this morning and
he scrapped it. I KNOW ITS NOT HIS FAULT. Ishould have
stayed in touch and went and picked it up in a timely matter.
I feel like a damn fool for letting it go. All it needed was
pistons and i have another C that wouldve donated them. I
called him back and asked what scrap yard but he said they
cut it right away. I know its completely my fault for not being
proactive which is why this sucks so much. I dont have a big
enoufh truck and trailer to haul it and it was 3 hours away
dont like borrowing much either so i couldnt get my ducks in
a row. Feelin pretty sorry for myself. Thanks for listening to
my whining.

Sorry to hear that.

Seems like when a guy has the money, you dont have the time. When you have the time, you dont have the money. At least that"s how it goes for me.

BTW, I wouldnt say that someone who is owning up to a mistake, and taking reponsibilty for it is whining. Just frustrated it didnt pan out. One of those lesson learner things. BW

I have a 67 Mustang thats really pretty and forsale, guy in town wants it and has ask that I not tell anyone because he wants it. This has been going on for what seems like forever, there are pictures of it on facebook and finally got a call from someone that spotted it on facebook. He ask how much and when I told him he said sold", he's coming after it this coming weekend and the guy in town will be ------. I hate it, but due to my health I have lots to get shut of so my wife doesn't have to mess with it.

I'm glad I stayed in touch with my deceased best friend's sister. She was thinking of scrapping his JD B and it's in my yard.

Ya,I let an Oliver 60 slip by at an auction Saturday. Brought $675. No telling how high I'd have had to go. Had my eye (and checkbook) on something coming up later on the sale.

I don't know what it is, but there seems to be a serious lack of common courtesy with people on craigslist in general.

I've had a lot of bad experiences with people on there.

Not that what he did was really bad, but more of a missed opportunity to do somebody a simple favor.

He didn't owe you anything - but it wouldn't have killed him to give you a quick call to let you know.

Too bad it ended that way. Always a shame to see an old tractor scrapped.

Happens to everyone...

The folks' next-door neighbor had a Farmall 560, and it looked like they were trying to turn it into a pulling tractor. They had it torn apart to varying degrees, and parked in different places all around their property.

Dad calls up a couple weeks ago, and says he went by there today and saw them loading the cut-up pieces of that tractor on their trailer to haul away for scrap. Obviously it was too late then, the tractor was already torched into man-sized pieces.

They didn't even TRY to sell it. We had a line on a good engine out of an IH 615 combine that would've put the tractor back in the field.

I always say that there 10,000 more items out there that people want to sell. When I miss one I always find another that is even better. I don't go looking for them, I just keep my eyes open for the next great deal.

Was that at the Petersen consignment auction in Trufant? Got there late and wondered what some of the tractors went for. Picked up a pretty good gravity box reasonable.

Yes. It started and ran OK,tires were decent. Just needed a few pieces of sheet metal.
I bought an old Moore horse drawn plow, made in Greenville,a pair of 13.6 38 duals for the tires and that CaseIH chopper that sat way up on the hill in the southwest corner.

Always liked that auction. Had a great day for it Saturday, not like a couple of past years where it was cold and rained all day. I tried to get that 4-row international planter, but went for more than I could pay. Not saying it wasn't worth more, just that I didn't have more to spend. LOL.

Ya,I was watching the sky. First time I ever remember that it didn't get either cold or wet by mid afternoon. I don't remember my feet ever hurting so bad though. Got there a little before 9AM,stayed til the end after 4:30. By the time I got hooked on and loaded up,I got out of there about 6:15. Made for a long day.

Speaking of Mustangs there is going to be an auction Monday a couple miles from me, that has a '65 vette on the list that has been in a barn since 1974. Rag top with beautiful side pipes. Any one have an idea what it will go for?

I don't see how you could expect him to keep it forever just because you procrastinated so long. If you where really serious about it then you would have figured out a way to go get it.

As to the earlier posting about the guy being in the wrong for not calling you. Well he DID WAIT a year!!!!

I sell quite a lot of stuff on Craig's list. I have a very simple policy on selling there. The first person in my drive with the cash is the owner. I don't take checks and I don't hold stuff for people anymore either.

I used to let guys take advantage of me that way, not any more. I had some old IH castings and frame rails etc. Mostly "M" and "H" stuff. The good parts had been picked off of them. Four years ago when scrap was sky high I was going to haul them in for scrap. Some how a guy heard I was going to get rid of them. He came over and agreed to buy all of it. He even gave me $200 down. I waited on him for a year. I called him every month to see when he was coming after the stuff. HE always had some reason for not coming. I needed the room for stuff that had good parts on them. I finally called and gave him 30 days to come and get the stuff. He never showed. I hauled it in for scrap. The price was $150 a ton less than when I originally was going to get rid of the stuff. HE even had the nerve to raise cane about his deposit. I told him the storage bill ate his deposit up.

So now it is cash and carry. If you want to leave it then it is $250 per month/per item to store it. It is amazing how fast someone will come and get stuff when they get a storage bill.

I sold a new Holland baler and an old Polaris four wheeler to a guy 3 years ago and he still hasn't come got em yet I've been tempted to scrap the baler a dozen times but haven't got around to it yet feel kinda bad scrapping it after selling it to the guy but haven't heard anything from the guy

Funny you posted this......I read it just after commenting (with the manners and tact that I am famous for) on a forum here where a guy was complaining and badmouthing (posting full name, address, and phone number) of a guy that sold a part that they had a verbal agreement on. No down payment or anything in writing and the complainer never showed up at a couple appointments to pick it up. Several folks chimed in after I called the guy (complainer) an idiot quoting law paragraphs that said the seller was obligated to hold the part on a word agreement...Told them they were all idiots too, but if there is such a law it wouldn't surprise me.... Wish I had known about it a couple of times

Not calling you an idiot or a whiner, just comparing mentality of different cultures.....
