Ivermectin for hookworm in sheep

Went through shearing last week on or flock of Shetland sheep. A few were feeling a little rough. Our usual is to dose them with Ivermectin and CDT at each shearing. We took a stool sample to the vet from one of the weakest today, and report came back - HOOKWORM. Ivermectin package doesn"t say anything about hookworm. Does it work on them?

I think Ivermectin works to a degree, but Benzimidazole is more targeted toward hookworms. That's what they give humans for hookworm anyway. I would wait a month or two and see if the Ivermectin takes care of the symptoms and if not look for something called "Valbazen" which is a Benzimidazole dewormer for livestock. Or just check active ingredients, maybe there's a generic.

There's also Fenbendazole marketed under the name "Safe-Guard". It's the same drug class. Not sure if there's a product approved for sheep though, (maybe just cattle and hogs).

We use Ivermectin on our cows & calves but not sure if it is labeled for sheep. We are currently using a liquid drench called Valbazin in our ewes/lambs and found it works very well. I don't have a label nearby so I'm not sure if if hookworm is on it. Have used Safe-Guard in the past also. Others I know have used Ivomec Sheep Drench.

I see where Ivermectin will kill hair worm and barber pole worm but having trouble finding the hookworm, see where Conbantrim is effective with Humans, watch yourself because they also enter through the skin.
go for a trip with the search engine.
